Title: Playing in "Saturday Night FIghts", &c.
Post by: Cyrano on May 21, 2020, 02:51:03 PM
As we get further along into this, just a few pointers about getting involved with the games I run:

1.  Sign up here at the forums and introduce yourself.  One of the great joys of this has been meeting new people.  It also gives us a slight assurance that you're not a reprobate.  Re: excluding reprobates, Doug and I are grand-fathered.

2:  Friend me on Steam.  I am "Cyrano" there along with a billion others, but I use the same avatar there as I do here.  Or you could look in the Armchair Dragoons Steam group.

3:  You don't need a flame-throwing computer to run these games, but it's got to be mid-range.  Your connection is more important.  This is critical when the table is full.  Often, satellite just doesn't get it done.

4:  Headset and microphone, please.  We use Steam chat for voice and it works well.  Better than TTS itself some nights.   If you've got that echo thing going on, we'll as you to "push-to-talk" to prevent everybody from going buggy.

5.  On game nights, usually 1800-1900 Wednesday and Saturday I will look about and see who is present.  If there are slots available, I will invite you.  I always feel dreadful if I don't tap people on the shoulder and offer.

6.  Once in game, if you haven't, turn your lift height to the minimum.  This is the little weight-lifter dude at the top right of your screen.

7.  There is no note #7.

8.  Be excellent to each other.

I always enjoy watching / listening to the games although its after the event due to the damn time-zone wozname :-(

Its great to see that there is now a means that allows multiple people to enjoy gaming together live on-line. Hats off especially to Jim who has put so much effort into make this possible, and the unflagging enthusiasm that goes with it.  :2thumbs:

A small clarification of Note 8: enjoying a drink while playing is fine. Becoming too impaired to remember rules and play reasonably is not.

Hi Jim,

I’m pretty new to online gaming with Steam. When you say ‘if you’re around,’ do you simply mean logged in to Steam and you’ll see which of your friends is there? Or do I need to formally check in somehow?

And, if I’m not playing how can I watch the game?

Thanks,

Chris Buhl

PS - what happens if I answer ‘axis’ or ‘faeries’ to questions 2&3 below?  Not that I’d ever try to be a wise ass or anything...

Jim usually posts things here throughout the week looking for players, either for SNF, or something during the week

And, if I’m not playing how can I watch the game?
He streams nearly everything on YouTube, and we post the SNF games here on our site

registration is rejected and you're told to try again, but it's mainly to keep out bots trying to brute-force the registration

Cyrano and Dragoon’s,

Hello my name is Joe Noll, I’m a war gamer living in WV, and am happy to be a new member of the forums.   I’m particularly interested in TTS and became so after watching many of Cyrano”s videos.   I play moist of my games in person, when Covid isn’t present, and these range from Chain  of Command to Conflict of Heroes.  I have an interest in Napoleonic and Ancient periods.  But honestly I’ll play anything.

If i could get into a TTS game, i would be very appreciative.

Actually I don't Think that I never do that, even if some of you already Know me, but what's in the rules of the forum it's the rules:

Hello to everybody, I'm Giorgio an Italian living for the moment in Madrid, Spain (we're planning to move to Bretagne, France - but  with the covid closing it's quite hard to planning anything); anyway, I'm a long time wargamer that discovered, also thanks to the video of Monsiuer Cyrano,  TTS sometime like an year ago, and I do realize that is wonderful way to play wargames if you can't met with your friend around a table. Then comes the Covid issue.
I can't go anymore to our club "Septimo Grado, Madrid" and I start to create model to play with the miniatures that i'm used to paint.

What I can say more about my presantation to the people of the forum, I'm married, my wife is mexican, we have two wonderful girls living in France and two cats... ('cause Orso - Bears in english- the italian "sin papels" died the night of Halloween two years ago after a long a pleasent life. I have a twin brother that lives in Italy, with which I play a lot with TTS normally Epic Armageddon, Saga, and whatever we see fit :) and that's All Folks (hope i did not broke some Copyright rule writing so).

Ciao from Madrid
Giorgio

PS: there're no planning for a game this saturday (10/31/2020)? Whatever it's good to me if i can participate and you could cope my english. Monday it's bank holyday in Spain so I can cope the night playing time of the saturdays night :)

Hi Everyone--

I'm a new member and am very impressed by the videos posted thus far of the battle of Leipzig. I'd love to get involved sometime in the future. I've never played using these rules, but I have read them and consider myself a quick study. The whole tabletop simulator is new to me too.

Looking forward to playing with you guys!

Hi, I’m Joe Noll and I live in West Virginia.  I’m a long time miniature war gamer; recently I’ve been playing the new ‘O’ Group by Two Fat Lardies, but I am partial to a wide range of games and periods, including Sci-fi and Fantasy.   I’m new to online war gaming, and have TTS and a speedy connection.  I would appreciate being involved in any of the Saturday Night Fights or other games on TTS.

Please consider me as a player.

Thank you,

Joe Noll

Not really, any would be good. However, I don't have a copy of the rules although Doug does. Not sure if or not Jim does either, plus it would need someone to make a TTS mod for it, so its all a bit of a tenuous idea at present. There again, I'd go with any set of ECW or even 30YW rules provided they are fairly easy to play.

I'll check with Wofun to see if they sell the rules separately, although as far as I'm aware, you only get a .pdf copy when you purchase on the army packs.

Hello Dragoons,  I want to introduce myself and hopefully join the party as my kids start going back to school.  My name is Ray Musselman, I'm from Pickerington Ohio, a suburb of Columbus.  My wife and I are originally from Apple Creek, a small town in Northeastern Ohio south of Cleveland.  I started watching the Saturday night game early during the lockdown and really enjoyed it.  One result of that was I became heavily immersed into all versions of Command and Colors and love exploring all the other rule sets out there.

I've been into the hobby since the late seventies (Empire III my first rules) but most of my serious gaming was done in the past 20 years with a local group and a homebrew system we adapted to everything with a musket, as well as Ancients and Micro Armor. Coinciding with the pandemic the group has moved to all different parts of the US and my gaming habits need to adapt. I really enjoyed discovering TTS and all the rules sets you've covered which I haven't tried over the past few years.

Thanks Dalinore. I appreciate the welcome. I started watching SNF sometime last year originally to learn some of the rule sets I was interested in. It didn't take long to pick up on what a great group this was and what an incredible Host Jim is. It just took a little while for me to get fully engaged.

Hey I grew up in Reynoldsburg and drive to Columbus all the time.  I am out in the Cambridge area.  We need to get together and do some Commands & Colors

Hey everyone, I'm finally back in the same time zone as you! No more starting at midnight for me!

Howdy, I’m Mike, currently upside down from you in Canberra Australia for a few more months until I head back to Fort Drum in the middle of winter because I hate happiness and sunshine.

I am going to try and coordinate time to actually give this a go sometime if another Blucher game comes up. The 1800-1900 start time on Saturday is perfect for my Sunday morning here in Australia now that I’ve got other things finally sorted and have some time for gaming again. Look forward to trying to get my hat in the ring to join you all.

I would be very interested in playing in a game sometime if you have an available slot. I have downloaded Steam, and TTS. I have a headset and Mic, and a new computer that may actually be a flamethrower lol. I have friended you on Steam as well. If I missed any steps please let me know. P.S. I have also signed up for your Blucher game for SDHistcon for Friday and I am looking forward to it.

It looks like we have cobbled together a system that might make it possible  to play a game.  How stable it will be is to be determined but we can only try.
So, is there a game Wednesday or will I have to wait for Saturday

I'd be interested in getting in on one of these.  A few things:

-I don't have a lot of miniature experience.  I played a game of Close Action once and had a blast, but the guy running the game did all the rules heavy lifting,
-I have very little knowledge of age of gunpowder/Napoleonic tactics.  I'm willing to learn of course, if there any YouTube videos/channels that have a good overview.  Book suggestions would also be welcome.

Mostly, it just looks really fun.  Thanks  :).

Sent friend requests to Cyrano on Steam and Discord.  Is there a Steam Group for Armchair Dragoons?  I couldn't find one?

Have you made your way to the Saturday Night Fights Discord chat.  It's sort of our boarding area for gaming sorties.  Love to have you there soon...

Lance Gamble from Houston Tx.  Started off with AH Gettysburg in 76, up to 300 ish wargames now.  Started miniatures around 2000.  Spent 10 years in DBM and DBA tournaments.  Currently painting up some 6mm for Hardwar and 500ish 10mm for Altar of Freedom and Fire and Fury.  I have Wednesdays off and Saturdays aren't busy unless a big project is going out.

Hi Jim,

I finally got around to looking through the forum properly and noticed this conversation thread, so I thought I would "touch base" officially (as opposed to just chatting on YouTube [Matt Rowe]!).  I sent a friend request on the Steam-thingy, but not sure what alias it will use (could be Dog_Man_Bruno or MattRDoee).

As I've mentioned before, I'm a complete noob to Wargaming & TTS, so don't worry about invites to games, I just wanted to say hello and let you know that I'm really enjoying watching the channel (and that I'm a [mostly] well adjusted Human Being (unless it's a Full Moon of course  :))

Kind regards

Matt

Hi there, just dropping in to say hi. I left a comment on your recent Charlie Company livestream, was hoping to join in on the next game you play. I'll be running Charlie Co at Kublacon next month and wanted to get some first hand experience with the rules so that I'm more comfortable with them. Nice to meet you guys!
