Mentioned in Dispatches Season 8 Episode 4
Operational Level Napoleonic Warfare

Any thoughts on Nations in Arms? I don't think I heard it mentioned in the episode.

I agree, this game was not mentioned during the podcast. I have never played Nations in Arms: Valmy to Waterloo (2012), so I can't speak to it. A quick search in the ACD forums shows zero results, which surprises me a wee bit. I'm not sure if Cyrano and Ardwulf didn't mention it because they haven't played it, or because it slipped their mind. Another person I'd ask is Panzerde; however, I haven't seen him post anything in a long while, so I'm not sure if he'd see your question.

In case you haven't looked around, I found this comparison video between War and Peace (2020) vs Nations in Arms (2012) by Wise Guy History. Maybe it will be helpful?

Mentioned in Dispatches Season 9 Ep 1 ~ Welcome Back!
We're back for our 9th season of the podcast, and should hit 100 episodes this season. No, we can't believe it either.

Either yesterday or the day before I caught myself wondering when the new season would be released.  I even checked my podcast app to see if perhaps I had been accidentally unsubscribed.  Glad to be having new episodes for the next few months.

Listening to it today was like hanging out with friends you haven't seen in awhile. Really enjoyed the discussion and glad y'all are back for another season!

I'm looking forward to the discussion on solo wargames and was surprised that y'all didn't know about GMT's solo "division" called GMT One. I think they've been around for almost 2 years now helping improve their solo games as well as improve existing solo stuff. Maybe y'all get reach out and get someone from that team on your solo wargame podcast.

Also, the game accessories podcast sounds like it will be fun but expensive to listen to  ;D

In terms of ideas for podcasts, ones that I don't think I've heard before:

* Games that replaced other games (and why)
* Conversely, games that you've kept even though you know there are better implementations

Are you talking about ones in our personal collections?  Or ones that replaced others in a publisher's product line?

* Conversely, games that you've kept even though you know there are better implementations

that's probably half of my collection

You all discussed an AI system called Athena(?) in regards to Academy Games. I couldn't find anything about this at Academy Games, nor other places. I'm curious to learn more about it, so where should I look?

In regards to Flashpoint South China Sea (2022), Jason Carr has a nice explanation in the designer notes section about how he was inspired to create the solo system after attending a GMT Warehouse event when Mr. Buchanan demoed his game. According to Mr. Carr, he created the first iteration of the system that same evening after playing the demo.

Other possible topics would be random events in wargames. Brian Train loves 'em! I know others dislike them immensely. Maybe something to consider for a future podcast?

Great first episode!  :bigthumb:

I read the description Rocky quoted at the Academy Games website; however, Academy Games doesn't call this system Athena anywhere on their website. Is it named that in the rules? Just wondering how they decided upon that name, and why it isn't used on their website.  :dunno:
