So recently I was thinking I could do with a different kind of game. I was looking at Skyrim, Fallout, XIA, Outer Rim etc, etc.

I asked here about some games and people asked me what I was looking for and I wasn't really sure.

Well - I've thought about it.

Does anyone remember Strike Commander for the PC way back in 1993/94? You were a pilot running a mercenary group. You had an F-16 and had some other pilots. You were presented with missions which you choose from and would get money based on the outcome of those missions...things like protecting a flight or destroying a supply depot. Then you'd use that money to buy weapons, new pilots and aircraft.

So - that's what I'm looking for. Basically a game where you play a mercenary and you earn money doing missions and you can use that money for the betterment of yourself and/or your organisation.

Things like Skyrim and Fallout have the RPG element and missions, though I think they're a bit more scripted. But I'm specifically looking for something where I can choose from a selection of missions which one to take. Additionally, earning coinage for upgrades and the like.

Anything out there like that?

I'm thinking I may have just explained DVG's Warfighter!  :silly:

Which I wasn't over keen on for some reason.  :idiot2:

LOL!

Warfighter had a “spin off” called Private Military Contractor, PMC. It is exactly what you have described.

There are also all the DVG Leader type games.

There's also the Congo Merc game from Decision, one of their solo micro-folios, and a few others that use a similar system (the "Commando" system)

I just received my copy of Warfighter PMC - with a few additional addon packs.

This game is packed. I'm very stoked because it fits right in with what I was wanting.

After typing my post, I realised what I typed fitted with Warfighter in a loose way. Barth mentioned PMC which I did not know about and it fits 100% with what I was looking for.

Thanks Barth :bigthumb:

So - after a protracted period of time (almost a month), I'm passing this on.

Thanks for the suggestion - it really did fit the bill of the game I was looking for.

However, I came to the conclusion if I am sitting watching repeats of Frasier rather than get to the table to play the game, then I'm not enjoying the game.

That's been happening for over a week now. As always it takes me a while to decide that the game isn't biting...that's because I tend to think "Maybe I've not given it a chance" and I leave it on the table to make sure I give it that chance - but ultimately, that seldom fixes the problem. The game (any game I get this feeling with) often ends up just sitting there using desk space.

So it's with a heavy heart (I really wanted to like it) I'm gong to get rid of it. As I mentioned in another post, the rules are just awful and I did not enjoy sifting through trying to find specifics. No index, mention of rules in one section with no reference to the actual section and not to forget a pitiful attempt at including the PMC stuff.

Because of that, it's not even going in the "I'll give it another look some other time" pile because ultimately I won't remember these rules and will have the same problem later.

For various reasons, I've never been tempted by any DVG games.
