These are squad 4 of a platoon of 25 guys, after 3 years of painting, and selling, and selling and painting, i finally settled on a Soviet army, a German one and a British Paratroop one - and with a certain trepidation these are the penultimate squad of men, bar 2 mortars, a panzershrek and a couple of vehicles before i hang up my WW2 brushes and venture into the anthropomorphic world of Burrows and Badgers

And the first member of the Burrows and Badgers warband - everyone ive seen is a red fox, and they look amazing, i wanted to steer away from the norm and chose an arctic fox as inspiration, i might run an arctic/albino theme through the band with a bit of fluff to explain

Actually, he's busy painting B&B figures at the moment.

Looks like a Kelly's Heroes gang, which I suppose is the point. Nice figs!

M4A3E8?
-

-
Not an M4A3E8 then, and there seems to be something not quite right about the front end of that Tiger 1E.
-
The Kelly's Heroes Tiger was built on a T-34 chasis. So that's why it looks odd.

Rumor has it that the tank in Kelly's Heroes was an M4A3E4 which was rebuilt and upgraded after the war for the export market, in this case probably Yugoslavia, which is also where the movie was filmed. In the movie Oddball says something about his crew putting long lengths of pipe over their gun barrels to fool the Germans into thinking they have 76mm guns.
The Tiger I in the movie was actually a T-43-85 with a *lot* of cosmetic enhancements. That's why the turret is too far forward. This type of conversion was done for a number of WW2 movies.
EDIT: ninja'd by Mirth on the Tiger...
-
Oh yes, I know about that, but I was actually referring to the model kit in Brant's thread. Also, you will notice in the film that the Sherman's used in the film have much longer gun tubes than the 75mm that was the normal armament, but lacks the muzzle brake of the 76.2mm gun that the M4A3E8 was armed with.
Is this rivet counting or what!
I claim my nerd badge.
-
Some more rivets to count... :bigthumb:

Lots of good pictures there, Stagger, most of which I've not seen previously :bigthumb:
-
Heh I’ve always wondered about that weird tiger - it’s marketed on its own as ‘Hollywood tiger’ but I never figured what they were referring to - now I know
-
Yes, it would seem to be a model of the fake Tiger used in the film. I dread to think how many people have brought it thinking it was a model of the real thing :-)

I would hope none, since the product copy clearly says that it's the mod for the movie

These are human beings we' re talking about. ;D

The problem is when it's out of the box and on the table. I could see a lot of people thinking it's a model of an actual Tiger.
-
Exactly. Not every one who buys these things are as knowledgeable as we
sorry bunch of nerds are.
-
I could link you to a hundred arguments over the colour of helmets, the true meaning of German field grey, the right colour of camo for a tank - the list is endless
There’s also a guy on the Combat Mission forum who from as far back as me joining in 2001 is a famous pain in the ass, will argue the contrary every time until you pull your hair out - there’s a guy with the same name on the bolt action FB page and after a few recent epic posts I realised it’s him and the ‘asshole’ is strong with this one
-
The CM forums always seemed to attract the more extreme nutters.
-
Paint it the way you want, then take a picture and send it to me. I'll Photoshop it with rainbow helmets, pink camo, lucky stars, blue diamonds, the whole bit, then send it back to you. You can post it and give them a stroke. :)
-
Evil bugger!
...I like it :bigthumb:
-
There is a group of chaps that constantly paint their panthers pink for the obvious reason, it causes the rivet counters to melt
-
Pink Panthers :bigthumb:
-
Pink panzers from the old days of Avalon Hill!
-
Oh heck yes. My battered old copy of Afrika Korps has pink counters.
