ok - I wasn't able to save many photos. I don't know if there's something wrong with my skills, or something wrong with my lens - but for the past few airshows, I've had terrible results.

These are the best I could keep. I managed to save 90 pictures out of 700 taken and of those 90, I reckon these are the only decent ones, and some of these are genuinely only half decent.

My lens has started playing up on max zoom...sometimes it'll take a picture, other times it just won't. Also the focus is really bad at times and I genuinely don't think it's me. But then a bad workman always blames his tools.

What I should've done was asked my pal if I could use his camera and see if I get better results and let him use mine to see how his turn out...never thought though.

Additionally - for some reason taking pictures ina  bright sky is HELLISH! All you end up with, more often than not is a really dark subject (as you can see with the 2 Spitfires). I don't know how to combat that. It's always worse when the subject is dark (like camouflaged aircraft).

Anyway - here's a few I thought were good enough to keep.

A few more...

And that's all I've got.

I'm so annoyed with the one with the Lancaster and the B-17. It could've been such a beautiful photo if it had been in focus...you don't get to see those two together often and in fact I don't think I've EVER seen them together at an airshow at Duxford.

Some great pictures there, JD, and the weather looked excellent. I've been lucky enough to see several of those aircraft at different times, but would love to see the Sea Fury and the Lysander.

On my bucket list. I'm not going to see too many of those birds in the USA.

JD, Look into a polarizing filter for your "bright sky" problems. It may not be a perfect solution but they are intended to help with issues like that.

I think it's a great collection of pix. Back in the day I chewed up a lot of film to get a couple good shots. It's sort of the game you play. Good news is these days you are only burning SD card memory.

Seeing the Lysander take off in something like 50ft is amazing.

Thanks - I'll look into that. The bigger problem is my focus which seems to have got worse at some point.

JD, here is a little more detail on polarizing filters if it helps.

"This useful tool changes the way that your camera sees and captures light, particularly in relation to reflections and glare. By using a polarizing filter, you can dramatically improve your landscape photography to create images that are vibrant, dynamic and which stand out from the rest."

For all intents and purposes you are doing landscape photography. Your landscape just has a bunch of airplanes flying around in it.

The end result is like so.....

Thank you. That makes sense so I'll give it a go next year when I go again. I'll look at the tops of filters I can get
