Has anyone played it? I wasn't aware of it when the KS came out but thought it looked pretty cool. It's just been restocked so I splurged and ordered a bunch of stuff for it.
The core gameplay reminds me a bit of a homebrew minis game a friend of mine came up with back in the 80s. In his game, we all controlled a longboat full of viking raiders and we were all attacking the same village in England or Ireland. The goal was to find the most loot and get it back to your longboat before the cavalry showed up. You had to work together to accomplish certain tasks such as battering down the church door but you could turn on the other players at any time and steal their loot, kill their raiders, and/or burn their longboat so they had to bribe you for a ride home. It as a lot of fun. The gameplay of Core Space reminds me a lot of that but all sci-fi'd up. Plus the terrain looks cool! I'm a sucker for pretty components

Damn, that does look impressive. It reminds me of Star Saga but those components are a lot prettier.
-
Nope. Not even seen that before.
-
It's got very good reviews on BGG. I hope it suits my tastes cause I threw way too much money at it.
It's a UK based company if you wanna join in the fun Bob.

Beyond my means I fear. I would have loved to have seen Space Hulk done like that :-)
-
They also sell terrain kits so you can do Space Hulk if you wish. Just recycle some more aluminium.

My stuff arrived yesterday. Punched out the starter set and set up the tutorial scenario. Looks like fun!

That looks really great. But man the prices on the website are expensive. What sets did you get? Did you buy enough to get free shipping?

I got it from Meeplemart in Toronto. They got a shipment of all the stuff in last week. $12 shipping.
I got the Starter Set, extra dice and player boards, the Purge Outbreak, Shootout at Zed's, and Galactic Corps expansions, and 3 extra crews to make it a 5 player game.

:o
Good deal!
-
Looks like I'm getting a copy of it too. I didn't buy it, it's part of a few titles I'm getting to review for a new upcoming podcast. :bigthumb:
-
So...a demo copy?
-
Shrug?
It's coming from a FLGS that sponsors the podcast that Martin and I are taking over.
Martin's all over the FB Solo Board Gamer groups - wargaming not so much so he's leaving the wargaming titles to me.
-
No need to explain, I'm just trying to take up mirth's slack here.
-
I know, I know. :2funny:
See, 'demo copy' to me is basically a cheap PnP version, something that has placeholder parts and pieces, like a first or second draft copy.

We ran an experiment with Core Space about a month ago. Instead of the game's bad guys (The Purge. AI bent on harvesting organic life.), we used the xenomorph minis from the Aliens vs. Predator boardgame and added in the Infestation tiles from one of the Core Space expansions. It needed a bit of tweaking but overall it worked pretty well. We might try playing the AvP rules using the Core Space terrain. I think it could be a winner.
-
That's a good idea. It's sad though that I can't remember if I sold my AvP game before I moved out here or not...I need to check the storage unit anyway.
-
No AvP so I must've sold it...pretty sure I remember that, yet pretty sad I don't 100% remember that. :(
In any case it, along with several other titles for review, arrived today. Looks pretty impressive. Really like the mousepad-type of game mat and the included parts to build walls, doors, and other structures for the scenarios. The minis seem relatively well detailed but feel small-ish to me. The manual is like a graphic novel - large and easy to read.
-
I've got the latest expansions on the way. Should be here next Tuesday.
Dangerous Days rulebook expansion.

Shift Change at MegaCorp. Adds in a bunch of civilian randos to get recruited, looted, or used as meat shields.

Rogue Purge. Adds a new kind of Purge enemy. Basically chaos Purge that have been separated from the Hive. They're also a playable faction.

You just gotta one-up everyone, huh? :2funny:
No, seriously, that's all cool. Who knows, I might will probably pine for it once I get through the core set.

;D Right there with you.

Jury's out. I REALLY like the walls and such, but I'm thinking it'll be a pain to set up and time-consuming to get it ready. We shall see. I am a sucker for cool bits to a game. I blame Eagle Games and Milton Bradley's series from the 80s for that. ;D
-
Set up and tear down can be a bit of chore. I don't mind the initial set up if friends are coming over to play as I can do it ahead of time. Trouble is, it only takes about an hour to an hour and a half to run a mission. If we want to do another (we usually do), we have to tear down and then build a new map. That's where it can get tedious.
-
The new expansions arrived today. I didn't know that they'd switched from plastic to resin for the minis. Not really a fan of resin. While I appreciate the extra detail, I find that the resin tends to be rather brittle and breaks easily. (It also means extra assembly and all that detail means painting is more involved and harder). I try to package my minis in foam for safe storage and transport but even with those precautions, a fair number of my alien and Predator resin minis from AvP are missing tail spikes and spear tips.

I am at some point going to end up buying this.
Dammit.
-
Wait a month. BC will have one for sale....
-
Nope. I really like the look of this one. Besides, it's a review copy, so I wouldn't sell it if I had to eventually offload it.
