Probably should've had this in last week's Tuesday Newsday release, but...
It was 2 years ago last week that we opened the doors here (8/31/18) and here we are!
It hasn't fully developed the way we'd originally planned for it to, but what ever does?
So what do y'all think?
Shoot me a PM if you prefer not to blab out loud, but we're genuinely interested in what you guys think about how we're doing and where we're going
-
I think its a great place with a good core of people. We have kept out trouble makers and, as planned, steered away from topics that caused controversy. There is plenty of hobby related activities either here or affiliated to ACD. OK, I accept that not all goal have been realised, but by the same token, its not been an unmitigated disaster either.
-
Happy Two-Year's Old ACD! I'm very happy with the site and have no complaints about content or lack there of. Well Done guys! :applause:
-
Happy Birthday, ACD! I don't know what goals you guys had originally set out for this place, but I have no complaints. 8)

I like it - but.......
I just get confused with the forum names...that's all. They don't jump out at me as where I should be posting...not all anyway.
Sorry to be the only naysayer here - but you asked :tickedoff:
-
Are you referring to just the ones under 'Wargaming' or the whole forum?

Don't sweat it. We want all kinds of feedback.
The intent was to get away from the stovepiping of digital versus tabletop games, and to focus instead on the era/topic of the wargame regardless of how you play it
for things that aren't workings, we were just grouping those into more general buckets since those weren't really the focus of what we were doing here
That was the intent, anyway. Not sure how well we've been meeting it...

Looking at the forums, it's really just the bit under Dip- blah...don't know what that means and the forum names under - they don't stand out as obvious and so mostlye I post under Simposia.
I wouldn't sweat it - i'm kind of mostly aware what they mean now - but it took me some time.
-
I have no complaints. I really like that it's free of politics and similar topics. It'd be nice to have more ASLers here, but I know where to find them. At the same time, I like hearing about other games besides ASL.
Otherwise - great job building a great community!

It's been a good 2 years.

You could always invite the ASLers over here

Congrats on the 2 years and I'm just sorry it took me so long to get here.
I'll echo JD's comments about it being a bit confusing about where to post certain things but it just takes sometime to get use how its all organized.
The only other thing I would mention is no real criticism of the forum itself but more of a revelation of my laziness/ineptitude but I sometimes wish it was easier to upload pictures to the forums. Maybe I've been spoiled or gotten lazy with the Twitter app being able to take the picture in the app and post it but there have been a couple times when I've wished for a quicker way here on the forums (There is the possibility that this way exists and I just don't know how to utilize it)
Also, getting involved with the guys on Saturday Night Fights has been a real highlight of my time here as well!

Are you talking about from your phone/tablet? or from a computer?

Sorry from the computer.

Happy 2 Year Birthday!
You know, before you troublemakers were a bad influence, I didn't own any board games, grrrr!!!
-
-
lol, and you might as well go ahead and start shopping for new shelving. :bigthumb:

Hey, in one year I only have 8 games, luckily I missed the WaW kickstarter! :(
-
That's how it starts..............then it'll be up to 8 per month before you know it............

I'm not really a what you'd call a very active boardgamer and yet I have two bookcases full of them, 75% acquired in the last decade and possibly 50% in the last 2-3 years... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
I haven't been a boardgamer in decades, having sold my soul to my PC in the 80's. That makes a lot of the content here is more nostalgic than relevant to my current gaming hobby. Nonetheless, I look on board games with a fondness and really, I'm here because I enjoy the company so much. That's good enough for me. Happy Birthday, Dragoons!!!

Was after something a little different-sounding; they are loosely inspired by Ancient Greek names, but not absolutely translated (partially b/c of alphabet differences) :nerd:
There are also little tagline under each to tell you what they're for 8)
Anyhow.... a non-trivial part of the setup was breaking away from some older models so we weren't all stuck in a previous mindset, while trying to keep some familiarity.
A different look to the site, and some different names, were one way to do that without going completely crazy in ripping everything up

It is indeed a great place to hang out and chat with online buddies
It did originally surprise me, without your intention I assume, and it may only be me, that the bias is very much towards board gaming and if I need gaming news I’ll go elsewhere, but for camaraderie and general good spirited abuse there’s nowhere else to go
-
'geek, my old mate!
Yes, we did feel that we wanted a bit more emphasis on board gaming.
-
We are more than happy to talk digital gaming at all times. It's just a matter of people talking about what they play, and right now we seem to have a few more tabletop gamers around here than digital ones.
feel free to go club a few more digital ones over the head and drag them back to the cave by their hair, and we're totally fine talking all kinds of digital games at that point 😁
-
I feel its a great place, but what can I say; I was very generously offered my own piece of ACD to run my failed attempts at coordinating a BattleTech campaign, yet the section still hasn’t been deleted! 😊 😜
One of these days three times will be the proverbial charm and we will get going properly.
-
I don't play board games but I do love hearing about them. This is THE place for that. :bigthumb:

WOW! I bet that saves a lot since I would assume not playing boardgames means you are not buying boardgames either. Though that may be presumptuous on my part. Especially since there are many of us that play only a fraction of the games we buy.
In the weekly Compass Games video podcast where Ty Bomba was announced as the new editor of their Game+Articles magazine. If you listen, he seems to imply he believes the # game players vs # game collectors is a very low ratio. From his comment, it seemed to me that he felt it was in the teens or lower (percentage wise). If that is truly how he feels, I wonder if that affects he designs/develops games? I wonder if other designers/developers share that opinion about how many games go un-played.
-
I used to play board games, ASL, War & Peace, Panzerkrieg, and a few others but I never had space to keep them set-up or really anybody to play with. So I went complete computer games where all the space I need is the soft chair to put my butt in. :bigthumb:
-
It's been the other way for me - computer gaming has taken a back seat - a huge back seat - since I discovered board gaming.
-
Like Sir Slash, I play pretty much only PC war/strategy games, and for pretty much the same reasons. But as he also said, I enjoy reading/hearing about boardgames here. :)
-
You know guys, you could get a lot of that board game feeling wow comfortably seated at your computer, plus a heaping helping of camaraderie with your fellow dragoons, if you just pop in to an episode of Saturday Night Fights one time 😁
-
I would love to but Saturday night is, 'Date Night' for me and the Missus. And Divorce Lawyers are VERY expensive. :worried:
-
I would too but the only night I can sacrifice to the gaming gods is Tuesday and that’s at the local table top club where my ninjas and sohei monks are getting spanned by my opponents Ona Bugeisha in test of honour
