EDIT TO ADD: OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT PAGE (https://www.armchairdragoons.com/acdc-jan-21/)
Current schedule draft: 22 DEC 11pm EST (https://www.armchairdragoons.com/acdc-jan-21-events/)
Looking like
FRI 15 JAN
SAT 16 JAN
SUN 17 JAN (if we get enough events)
for our next Dragoons Online Convention
And we need a better name for it
So far, LNLP, Academy, The Wargaming Company, and DGS Games are slated to be involved, and we'll no doubt add some more
Start blocking off some time now, and more details will be released as we get them fleshed out.
-
not happy with DOC?
how about Armchair Dragoons' Virtual Muster? or Online Muster? I thought for awhile you
called it the ADVA (Armchair Dragoons' Virtual Assembly)
Dragoons' Online Gathering (DOG)?
I'm sure someone can come up with something clever.

ACDC - Armchair Dragoons Digital Convention

ACDC - Armchair Dragoons Digital Convention
:bigthumb:
-
How about Armchair Wars?
-
^ That wins it for me :bigthumb:
-
'cept you really need to work the word 'convention' or 'con' in there. Otherwise people will think HBO is bringing back a riff on Star Wars again.
-
ACDC - Armchair Dragoons Digital Convention
:bigthumb: from me too!

And we need a better name for it
The Bore Wars

Attack of the Killer Zs?

Is that you, John Wayne? Is this me?

Is that you, John Wayne?
I'm more of a Gary Cooper type.

Mirth!

And here I'd always figured you more for a Roy Rogers fan.

JAOC (pronounced JAY-OCK)
Just Another Online Convention
OR
YAADOC (Yad-ock)
Yet Another Armchair Dragoons Online Convention

Weekend in the Saddle
(that could have many connotations with THIS group, mind)

Armchair Dragoons Digital Convention (ACDC) January 2021
that took me a minute, lol
-
It should probably be the ACDDC but that doesn't roll off the tongue
And while the ADD-C is accurate in describing y'all, it's not really our best foot forward
-
Thunderstruck.
-
Aw aww aw AWW aw aw WAAA waa
-
Exactly.
-
Okay, now it's stuck in my head. Therefore, I have to post this:
-
neither of you *needed* to post either of those
-
-
the fact that a bunch of people in US uniforms are performing a song by an artist who repeatedly, openly called for the killing of US troops on stage is, quite frankly, the height of embarrasment
-
It's also a significantly unnecessary derailment of what's supposed to be the discussion thread for the rest of the world to come join us to discuss the ACDC :bigthumb:
-
My apologies - I had no idea about that. I will remove it.
-
My apologies - I had no idea about that. I will remove it.
Not nearly as many people *do* know as should. They heard a catchy lyric and saw a goofy dance in a shiny suit and ran with it.
-
I was not aware of that either. :buck2: Bleh.
Back to topic: Any idea when the schedule for events will be available? (In time for when registration opens next week, hopefully?)
-
Schedule should be up by WED 12/23
-
Hey Trekkies!
We've got an Axanar scenario for Squadron Strike on Sunday!
What's that you say?
You don't know anything about Squadron Strike?
Why didn't we think of that?!
Oh yeah, we did!
You can learn to play either Friday evening, or Saturday afternoon, and then join the Sunday Axanar game!
-
That...actually sounds like fun. Damn you, sir.
(Seriously, though, that's pretty cool.)

Who wants to build the BGG geeklist of all of the games we've got that weekend?
Can it just be done by me as a user or do I need to be logged in, into an AD account (if there is one)?
All the games are listed in the schedule in the link above?
Do you have a title in mind, or a description in mind, to include in the listing? Or just go for it?

There is no AD account, so anyone can do it

We're still adding games, but that's a pretty good start for them

Title would be something like "Games at The ACDC January 2021" or something. Have to specify which ACDC in case we reuse the name down the line.
But otherwise, just go for it :)

https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/280507/games-featured-acdc-armchair-dragoons-digital-conv
I realized late in the list that you might have just wanted a game listed once with the event times/days in that listing, but this made more sense to me going in.
Let me know if anything needs changing or fleshing out.
-
Is there a cut off date for GM submission?
I might try and run something If I can stream it to an acceptable standard.
My youtube test streams were pretty choppy.
-
@Brant - note that I changed the first item (Freeblades) to be a little more info-friendly. Let me know if you like that format and I'll make the changes to the rest of them.
-
Is there a cut off date for GM submission?
Events will be locked down and final on 4 January
Not everyone will be streaming to YouTube, but most folks will at least stream through Discord for other attendees to check out.

Looks good.
You need to remove the one for "Last One Standing" b/c that's not the actual game Ryan is running. His is a different game that's not yet been picked up by a publisher, and probably isn't in the BGG database. That one just won't be on the geeklist, but it'll be OK
-
Done, and I will redo the listings per the first one as time allows.
Keep an eye on it though as there's questions being asked already. :)
-
Ok, I've updated the list and made sure it was all consistent. If I've missed anything or you need any additions/subtractions/edits, let me know.

Is there a Discord server up yet?

Is there a Discord server up yet?

I doesn't look like you can pay via PayPal on the registration site. Don't fancy just giving CC details direct to the events site. Any thoughts on whether this might change in the future. I was going to register but this has put me off for now!

We have no way to change the payment tools from the scheduling & registration site. It's a third party set of software that we use to keep the schedules straight & build all the channels we need in Discord.
Sorry :'(
-
You can do what I did and get a small pre paid credit card (25 was the smallest I could find), and use that.
If there is any money left on it you can send a paypal invoice to yourself.

You could have probably done it through Paypal without the prepaid CC. A Paypal Key acts as a virtual credit card tied to your Paypal Wallet balance:
https://www.paypal.com/us/smarthelp/article/what-is-paypal-key-and-where-can-i-use-it-faq4240
The key generates a number that acts like a CC and is accepted as a Mastercard.
Paypal isn't really any more secure than other credit services, it's just convenient. Merchants often avoid using it because Paypal has historically charged some of the highest merchant fees in the payment processing industry.
-
Dang, I didn't know Paypal had that option. :o
-
That paypal key must be a thing available to Amercans, or at least is not something that shows up in Paypal Canada .

Last time I ordered a 25 dollar gift card from Amazon to pay for it. Then just put the remainder of the money in my Amazon funds (like a gift card).
-
PayPal key is also not available in Germany either.
How would using an Amazon gift card work? What would you fill in as CVC?

What people were doing was buying a prepaid credit card, like you often find at the supermarket. Once you use it for registration, you take the balance and use it for an Amazon purchase or to buy yourself some kind of gift card to convert it to something you would actually use
-
I see. Seems again not be that common in Germany. ;D Just compelled a friend of mine to use his credit card and am registered now.
-
alles gutes!

Thanks to everyone who made this past weekend so much fun. I hope everyone had a chance to get some games in and enjoyed the best kind of convention we could deliver under the circumstances

Great job Brant, now I have to explain to the wife, those packages arriving in the mail :-[

- Thank you very much Brant. I had a great time in my second ACDC. A designer like David Thompson with his By Stealth and Sea was my best moment of the weekend.
Also thanks to Cyrano, of course, and to Tim, Karl, Dave and to Scott Moore and his infinite patience. :bigthumb:

While I think I've long understood it on an instinctual level, I only just now consciously realized that one of the reasons I've always felt at home here is our collective predilection for pedantry. :P
