Title: Charles-Étienne Gudin returns home
Post by: mcguire on July 14, 2021, 02:46:41 PM
France receives remains of Napoleonic general from Russia (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-57810139): Charles-Étienne Gudin is back home. Or, rather, the remainder of him.

And in a related story (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-56977769) on the impact of Napoleon on history, I found this gem:

Quote
"It was disturbing to learn about Napoleon in school," [Napoléon Nguyen] told me. "I was quite a shy kid, but it was important to learn where this name came from. I think he did a lot more good things for France than bad. And I feel lucky not to have been named another controversial character, like Attila for example."
