First Impressions of Thirty Years War by Wargame Design Studio
John Tiller would be proud. This game kicks ass. Really nicely done all around. WDS continues to improve a tried a true engine with continued palpable improvements with each of their series title additions. All that, and as they can, they offer those same improvements to the other games in the series! It is rare in this industry to see that level of devotion to the fans.

This is really a great game.

The following screenshot is from the scenario: Herbsthausen or Mergentheim - Historical.

its a 12 turn scenario depicting well lets let the scenario description explain things:

Date: 5th May 1645 - Size: Small - Location: Herbsthausen

Scenario Briefing: The Battle of Mergentheim, also known as Marienthal or Herbsthausen - When the French general Turenne discovered that a substantial portion of Mercy's Bavarian army had been detached to help deal with Torstensson's Jankow offensive, he crossed the Rhine with 10,500 men and 10 guns, forcing the outnumbered Bavarians to fall back into Swabia. After capturing Rothenburg in April, Turenne advanced northwards towards Wurzburg but then found that his army lacked sufficient supplies to remain intact. Anticipating this, Mercy, who was now reinforced by Werth's troops, hastened to crush the now outnumbered Turenne before he could re-assemble his army. Since Mercy had cavalry superiority, Turenne was forced to fight a defensive battle, without guns, against approximately 2:1 odds.

Recommended Rules: Default

Note: Best played as the Bavarian Catholic League (Imperialist) side against the Anti-Imperialist (actually Catholic, but anti-Hapsburg French!) side.
