We had a great game this afternoon.  It was one of those ASL games that came down to the very the end.  During the final advance phase of the final turn, my opponent advanced one of only two of his surviving units into the last victory hex to claim the narrowest of victories -- but a victory nonetheless.  A thrilling finish.

I’ve spent half my life’s earning on wargames, women, and drink. The rest I wasted.

I'm hoping to get 'Slouch Hats and Eggshells' on the table.

I went to MACE in Charlotte.  Played in 5 sessions and ran 1.  Four of the five sessions I played in were really fun (Mutant Crawl Classics x 3; Savage Worlds Supers) and one was bad.  My Call of Cthulhu session went very well.  Everyone had a good time.  Chaosium sent me 6 printed "quickstart" guides that I gave away to my players as swag.

But Brant scored the big win.  I gave him a very large Radio Control Tank for his yard.

MACE was a well-run gaggle of gamers, with a bunch of fun folks to hang out with.

What was really nice was being able to sit down for lunch and just chat and not be rushing off to the next event to mess with.

And the tank, sadly, is still in the motor pool on account of some really shitty weather here right now  :-\

How many wargames were played at MACE by your count?

Traditional hex-and-counter groggy games?  Maybe 2?

Handful of skirmish minis games, a couple of zombie-hunters, etc

Which is why we're planning to be there next year with something wargamey and easy-to-teach, like a C&C or Hold The Line.  Heck Jeff (the boss at MACE) seems to think an A&A tournament might well bring in a dozen players, if we weren't so burned out on trying to do tournaments and having no one show up.

You had time to actually sit down for lunch and just chat at a convention?  :D

I'll be opening and breaking the shrink on a game I just bought off of Amazon.

It's a game that I had bought back in Texas, kept on the shelf for over a year, and never broke the shrink. I paid about $40 for it then and sold it in my clearing-house sale for about $30 IIRC.

I was able to get it for $13.99 though, this time. And I regretted selling it as I really wanted to try it out. Plus I imagine the AAR possibilities of my fellow Dragoons as astronauts, fookin' up things in space, would be far too entertaining (think Keystone Kops but with a lot more starvation and suffocation).
