Finally, after what seems like forever, someone is making a Civilization-like game!
The someone in this case is Amplitude:

HUMANKIND

I'm really looking forward to this one.  :bigthumb:

Yay?

I'll try to put it in perspective for you. Let's say that there was a boardgame designer called Cid Grier. Cid Grier designed a boardgame at the strategic level covering the entirety of WWII 28 years ago called Mobilization. You love Mobilization because you love WWII boargames, especially at the strategic level. Now, for whatever reason, Mobilization was the only strategic level boardgame covering the entirety of WWII in the entire world. For 28 years. Then, one day, a company called Grampitude says, "we're gonna make a strategic level boardgame covering the entirety of WWII". After 28 years, finally, someone else is going to offer a new take on a boardgame covering the entirety of WWII at the strategic level.

So, yeah. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed. One of the reasons why I can't wait for this to come out.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

For some reason, I've not been able to get into Amplitude's games thus far.  I bounced hard off off both Endless Space titles (despite really wanting to like them), and Endless Legend just never interested me in the first place.

Humankind, though, I admit has me somewhat excited.  I've been waiting over a decade for a decent AAA historical 4x title, and I think this could be it.  It's about time someone gave Firaxis some genuine -- and desperately-needed -- competition.

I've also struggled to get into Endless Space (1 & 2) but Endless Legend is a great game. It took a couple of tries to get into it but once figured it out it was worth it. I hope this game builds on EL more than ES.

Begin as Ancient Egypt, then evolve into the Romans, the Khmers, or perhaps the Vikings.

This part is intriguing. One thing about the Civ games (excuse me, Mobilization) that bothers me a bit is how Civs are named the same thing for their ENTIRE existence. Such as, the Americans - you're able to start the American Civ in 4000BC and...well, you're Americans through the ages. If this is hinting that you can 'evolve' or change your Civ into some other thing, that might make things more interesting.  (Not sure if I'm making sense, but when do I ever...)

Go to Amplitude and apply for the Humankind OpenDev program. Still time to get in on the next round of scenarios to test.

This first one is a 45 minute special made scenario to get player feedback on certain aspects of the game. And it's NOT behind a NDA. So when I get a chance I can post some pics and tell about what's going on.
But it's time limited too, only available to play from Last night to Monday sometime.
Good thing my 2 week vacation starts now!
