Gamebreaker, part of DARPA’s larger initiative in military AI, is about winning Real Time Strategy games.

I believe that they are looking at board games as well as they are looking at game rules and mechanics to see if the game has flaws or exploits or bias. Should be Interesting to see how it goes.

My sarcastic thoughts as I read the article were:

1) Sounds like they are making the perfect beta testing bot. If DARPA can break it, then back to the drawing board before the game can be released.

2) Isn't this what most min/max gamers already do?

It is funny because I read the article and thought the same.  A good min/maxer is an invaluable asset to any beta testing effort, though usually they're quite abrasive personalities to deal with.

But they get bored and eventually move on, there's so much fun to have. Algorithms don't get bored and walk away from your game... :)

hmm ... So Northrup will build their AI in LUA to defeat the AI of CMO-PE?

The Pro version of CMO may allow for native plugins. Otherwise, one could theoretically use this Lua extension http://w3.impa.br/~diego/software/luasocket/ for either a local or remote process to connect.
