I have the week off, so today I visited the USMC museum near Quantico. I got there right when it opened and had the place mostly to myself. Lots of interested things to see, including the second flag raised on Mt. Suribachi, a lego recreation of the flag raising, and an M 50 Ontos.
You might notice from the photo of the entrance that the shape of the building invokes the flag raising at Iwo Jima. They did a great job of this, because the museum is on a hill adjacent to I-95 N, and when you are about a mile south of the museum driving north, you can see the top of the museum through the trees, and you can't help but go back to that historic moment in 1945.
The Army museum is just a few miles from my house and will be opening next year. I'm looking forward to visiting it. About 5 years ago I got a special tour of the museum warehouse, which gave me a glimpse of what the museum will be like.

I’ve spent half my life’s earning on wargames, women, and drink. The rest I wasted.
