... Do we seriously suspect designers of such games for being idiots and assholes engaged in whitewashing?

You continue to parse my words, so I will reiterate what I mean when I refer to the assholes in the hobby. I mean the guys who will throw Nazis salutes and shout "Heil Hitler!". I mean the guys who will walk around conventions wearing Das Reich ball caps and t-shirts as though they are supporting a baseball team. I could go on with a list of bullshit behavior which is not uncommon within the hobby.

Ok ... we agree about that. (which I've never seen happen here).
But the reason you feel I'm parsing your words is that you reply to my concerns, not by addressing my points, but with what seems as dismissing them by instead giving examples like the above .... which comes across and a justification to not be concerned about what I'm concerned about.

I'm sorry if I've misinterpreted you.

No worries. I apologize if I seemed dismissive. It's a charged topic which inevitably leads to misunderstanding. I think we agree on the matter more than not.

I decided 1775 is a perfectly fine light wargame.

And I found it a ligthly-War-themed Euro.  I enjoyed it and own the 1812 game.  As I say, the distinction is of little consequence, but I feel it.

Truth. And I discovered that 1775 is a good way to get others interested in board gaming.

It’s the game I used to get my daughter interested in wargames. I think one thing long time wargames forget is just how complex and inaccessible most games are. There is a need for wargames like 1775 to expose new players and  non-wargamers, like euro gamers to the hobby.

I agree it has a euro game feel.

Yeah, but there's weird, unaccounted for pen marks in that game...

I agree. It made for a fun 2-3 hours of gaming. I don't need every game to be big and complex. I just prefer them that way :P

Great S3E1 episode, gents.  :bigthumb:

I seem to recall CGW at the time laughing off that Custer game for the Atari 2600. I remember reading a review for it and being, despite a 14-year-old hormonal boy, having zero interest in seeing Atari 2600 tiddays.
