We realized that ASLOK was the next weekend after we'd picked these dates.
Essentially, we're going to target the weekend before the NC State Fair each year as the Fall Assembly weekend, and hope that works over the long haul.
Yeah, I understand.
What's bringing you to the area? Work? Family? Retirement?
The last two. My wife and I had considered retiring in that area, but we didn't want to be too far from the grandkids. Then out of the blue my younger daughter said they wanted to move down there. They currently live in a townhouse in the DC area, but can't afford a house here, plus I think they want to find a slower pace of life than DC. We're pretty close to her, and she asked if we'd want to move with her. She visited the area last month and liked it, so we'll start putting the wheels in motion.
Not sure if I'll continue to work. I'm eligible to retire now, but I don't hate my job and would like to work for a few more years. If they let me go fully remote, I'll continue to work, or maybe they will let me go super max telework and I'll only have to go in to the office occasionally.
Overall, we will be happy to leave the DC area. However, the local ASL scene here has been doing well lately and I could play every weekend if I wanted to. For non-ASL gaming, earlier this year I found a guy who lives around the corner from me. We've been meeting every other Friday. We just finished a series of No Retreat games and will be starting Donnerschlag next. But I'm sure I'll find some new opponents in the Raleigh area.
