It is a crying shame because it's a very interesting subject and there's a lot to like and look forward to. If only they had made the rules more accessible to people without a photographic memory (or even people without a good memory).

Maybe it's just me. I tend to create problems were there perhaps aren't any. Ambiguity really throws me though. There's not a lot of ambiguity in there, mind. The manual is not bad at all. But - I don't know if I've mentioned this - the missing index, for me, is just a nightmare.

I'm going to edit mickleson's "expanded Table of Contents" on BGG so it's in alphabetical order and hopefully that will help.

Good news...I brought the manual along with me on holiday and after a few selective read throughs of various parts (specifically naval ops, convoys and amphibious landings along with the sequence of play) things make much more sense. So I'm stoked to get home and start my Leros campaign.

Great news, JD. Now I can look forwards to your playing experiences. :bigthumb:

So - nope. Just can't get a grip of this. I NEED a manual I can reference, and this does not have one. On the surface, it looks good...but once I start to look things up, I'm just lost.

It started to make sense on holiday, but when I got to the table again, I went....

There's a section that mentions applying two modifiers, but there are about 6 on the player aid card (or vice versa, I can't remember). Additionally, the Sequence of Play player aid has a reference to section 20 - and the manual goes up to section 19. There's just so many little bits that scramble my head with this game.

With no designer present on the forums, and with the forums so quiet, there's absolutely no point to posting questions. There's no videos either apart from unboxings. I absolutely need a video showing the process of invasion - because although I performed it when I got back from holiday, I simply was not at all sure I did it justice.

I spoke with my daughter about it and she advised there's no point forcing my way through something I'm not enjoying. I've gave it a good go. I've read the manual, I've re-read required sections, I've reset the game, it's been on my table for over a month...and I can honestly say, when I'm not sure how to play something, I simply cannot enjoy it. I don't have that mentality that some people have which is "It's my game, I'll play it how I play it"...I want to - but sometimes, I just can't...and I think I especially can't because the invasion and paradrop aspects of this game are pretty important.

Anyway - I was about to stick this on BGG and sell it and then my daughter said I should just put it under the table and wait. Perhaps in a month or two, or more, there will be a How to Play video.

So - it's packed up - which was a real chore in itself (as I mentioned, there's no real way to properly sort these counters) and under the table - waiting for someone online to show me how to play the damn thing.

I am now taking my time to decide what to play. I'm fed up selecting a game, reading the manual for a couple of weeks (it takes me AT LEAST that long), punching and clipping the counters, only to realise I flounder when I start to play.

I've found several play videos for the D-Day at series, so I suspect I'll give one of them a go (I love John Butterfield's games).

Yeah - very good advice, hang on to it and try again at some point, JD.

If you do decide to sell, please give me first refusal :-)
