It's never too early to start making excuses!
We might well have 3-4 other organizations co-located with us this year, too.

Random excuse...I unfortunately will not make it...:(
-
^ Knowing you, your excuse probably isn't random so much as it is odd/unusual. :hehe:

Origins Booth Crew! Check out the planning threads!
-
I'll provide a copy or two of Zurmat for the booth if that helps.
I could help with the WFX if you need help there as well.

That very kind of you. We can certainly work something out to get you guys into the event program! :)
As to the CPX's, that's a full-time job for the weekend, and you've got games to sell!
-
hey folks!
I've accounted for the usual booth crew that we have working our area at Origins.
If there's any of y'all out there that have not sent up a flare that you're interested in being a part of the Wargame HQ team at Origins.
Make no mistake about it, this is a game convention, but it's some actual work at the game convention as a GM. You're responsible for set-up and teardown, as well as teaching / shepherding the game, plus some booth set-up and teardown for the team as a whole. We usually get some free toys out of the deal, plus a chance to hang out with a bunch of pretty cool game folks (plus, y'know... me) and one of the biggest shopping halls you'll get for game stuff here in the US.
If you're up for it, PM me and let's chat.

Additional note on Origins 2022
As of right now, they are requiring both masks, and proof of vaccination to enter the hall.
I don't know if that will change by showtime or not.
Moreover, I don't want a single, solitary peep about whether or not this is a good idea or a bad idea, or an over-reaction, and under-reaction, or a perfectly-sized action.
I DON'T CARE
I'm not providing that info to start a flame war, but so that people can make the most informed decision possible about whether or not to attend either to just run around & play games, or come work with us at the Wargame HQ.
-
When can we expect to see events getting listed? (And, yes, unless something goes entirely sideways, that means I'm in this year!)
-
Holy crap, the Hyatt Regency rooms with the Origins rate went live today at 1:00pm and I completely forgot about it. I just went in and was able to secure a room there. Origins 2022, here I come!
-

not sure about the official master list, but I know what we submitted and they usually give us blanket approval of them. I'm just trying not get out over our skis and release something that ends up not being accurate
-
Looks like event schedule should be posted on May 9th. Event registration begins May 21. Seems a little closer than normal, doesn't it? Course, it's been a few years, so maybe I'm misremembering things.

Definitely closer to normal. I don't know if it's (1) late Origins 2021 / early Origins 2022, (2) TTE switchover, (3) typically predictable GAMA disfunction, (4) newly-generated GAMA disfunction, or (5) some combo of the above. But they are very late in getting their crap together this year.
-
I'm not explicitly saying you should post a tentative list of events and when they might be taking place, but I dare say we all know what the words tentatively, subject to change, etc., mean should you decide to take that calculated risk.

Hey look! A hint! >:D
-
I dunno... the words take the calculated risk didn't seem too certain in the first post. So I'm not sure if that means you should or shouldn't post the list.

And now I need to get a calendar and start planning out my further planned woohoos.

Would you link to the Europa game on BGG? I'm seeing quite a number of games and I'm not sure which one you're having an event for!

Second Front is the plan, per Ardwulf on the podcast
-
A quick update for folks that didn't know -
Origins has dropped the mask mandate at O-22
You still have to show proof of vaccination, but there's no requirement to wear masks. GMs can put a mask option in place for their individual tables / events, but the show is not enforcing one
As always, I don't give a shit and a half if you think this is a good idea or not, so please don't even start discussing that.
I'm providing this as decision-altering info for people that might have this as a key criteria (in either direction) for their personal attendance.

Hi, all! I've listed a few things on the Origins Virtual Flea Market geeklist that may be of interest to folks here. On Page 29 you'll find: Battle Hymn, Advanced Civilization, Wild Blue Yonder, and Jeff Davis: Confederacy at War. (Not really in line with ACD, but I've also got copies of 7th Continent and DC Deck Building game up there too).
I'm sure I'll be at a number of ACD events, so meeting up should be quite easy.
-
what do you want for 7th Continent? :)
-
My set includes the What Goes Up Must Come Down expansion, three of the extra curses, and any of the second-wave kickstarter stretch goals. The cards are the corrected ones (the 1st printing of wave 2 had color matching and size issues). The cards that get shuffled are sleeved and extra sleeves are included. Currently asking $175.

If you can sell it thru the flea market, take the deal. If not, and you bring it w/ you, let's talk, and I might be interested. Thanks!
-
I'll let you know if it sells. That said, I did say asking, not demanding. And while we may only see each other at cons (and really, just Origins), that puts you higher up on the list of people I like, so I'd much rather cut a deal with you than get what I'm asking from some stranger.
-
word will probably hit the street tomorrow, but expect the mask mandate to get reinstated
No need to comment on whether or not you think it's a good idea; it's completely irrelevant what you think. I'm providing this info to help people make their decisions about whether or not to attend Origins.

Counting Down to Origins 2022 ~ Consolidated Wargaming Events
We've pulled an extract of the wargame/wargame-adjacent events this year - not just ours! - that are (so far) available in the downloadable CSV.
We'll update this as more events get finalized in the listings (there's at least 2 NSDM events in TTE that are not in the download yet, for instance)

I think 1/2 my scheduled time is with you guys. Thursday, Command Post and Age of Dogfights. Friday, Team COIN and Zurmat. Saturday, Second World War at Sea. And then the raffle on Sunday.
I looked into Song for War and Shores of Tripoli, but neither fit with the other things I've got going on. That said, if I end up with some free time, I'd love to get an impromptu Shores of Tripoli in as I've heard very good things.
-
Dude.... Song For War is a blast, and since it's not released yet, this is one of the few places that you can get a game of it. I'd definitely recommend trying to find a way to get that into your schedule, even if it's the Sunday morning one and you're just half-listening to the raffle. You'll be 20 feet away and we know what you look like :)
-
And I was afraid you were going to say that... Ugh. Fine, I'll go see if I can redo my schedule a bit. I originally had it on Thursday, but realized that my wife is being kind enough to come up on Thursday and spend the day mostly twiddling her thumbs since the Art Festival doesn't start until Friday, so I decided that it be wise to set aside time for dinner with her on Thursday afternoon...
I already had someone move something an hour earlier on Sunday to make sure I'd be at the raffle. I might be able to cancel on someone Friday night and swap Command Post from Thursday to Friday.
Edit: If you had to pick between Song for War and WW2 at Sea, which would you go for? The way your running WW2 at Sea made me interested in it, but my local group is trying to learn Pacific War, so let's face it, Origins is the only place I'd end up playing it.

SWWAS is being run double-blind, which is the kind of thing you might only get to do at a convention, so that's tough to say 'no' to. Plus Rick does a great job of building the tension in the game.
But Song For War isn't released yet, so this is a chance to learn it, and play with some fun dudes who do the design work, which will let you know if you should buy it or not.
So I guess I'm saying....

Wiggling accomplished. I snagged the 4th seat in Thursday's Song for War game and switched over the the Command Post on Friday evening. My friends on the Nostromo... err Nemesis (sorry, Disney, don't sue me) will have to fight off the alien menace without me. But since I can't be commanding a space ship, I'd very much like to be the general commander for the command post game. It's a role I've yet to fill and, especially after my online Kriegsspiels, I think it be fun.
Now, I remain in a situation where I'd still be interested in giving Shores of Tripoli a go if we both end up with the time and energy. (And, no, none of the current time slots fit without me really wrecking my schedule.)

Kevin's going to be working out of our area, so there's a non-zero chance you could talk him into a game :)

Counting Down to Origins 2022 ~ Wargames in the Vendor Hall
The extract of wargame and wargame-adjacent companies in the vendor hall at Origins 2022
https://www.armchairdragoons.com/events/cons/o22-vendors/

OK, so what's "off the books" that we're planning on having there to play?
Robotech Reconstruction will probably hit the table at some point
Assault Games' Assault: Red Horizon '41 will definitely be on the table
BayonetGames' Warfighter series on Friday, early morning
*might* have a copy of Littoral Commander with us from The Deitz Foundation
that's just what we know of so far
-
Well, half my schedule is AD stuff. That which isn't would currently by Glory to Rome, Mosaic, Battlestar Galactica, Fortress America, Maracaibo, and probably Barrage and Age of Steam. I say probably on those last two because the Barrage game I thought was going to be taking place on Saturday and it now is being discussed for Friday and I'm not skipping Command Post for a Euro I can play with my local group. And Age of Steam would be with some of my local group and was suppose to take place right after Barrage.
If Barrage does fall through, I may try to pull my local guy into something war game related on Saturday in the hopes of sucking him into this corner of the hobby.

don't worry, we'll take pictures for you ;)

Most of y'all won't get why this is so damned funny, but this chucklehead chimes in on damn near every single question posted in the official Origins FB groups with a very self-assured answer regardless of whether or not he's even remotely correct.
(just off the top of my head)
Someone asked about vendors collecting local sales tax (required by law) with some totally made up bullshit and a very wrong percentage rate
He tried telling us that some fantasy minis skirmish game belonged on our wargame event extract because "they designed it to appeal to wargamers"
He's twice given out the wrong hours for the gaming hall, despite the correct answer being posted on the Origins website
so what's he's said is absolutely true
but what he does seems to indicate he doesn't really believe that
ps: he's also allergic to punctuation, and some of the vocabulary malapropos are pretty funny

I still have a few things I'm trying to sell at Origins that didn't sell on the BGG flea market.
Since they're war games, if you're interested in Battle Hymn (Ambush system by John Butterfield) or Avalon Hill's Advanced Civilization (with the base game and the alternative trading cards), make me an offer.
I also have the DC Deckbuilding Game, 7th Continent with What Goes Up Must Go Down and the other mini-expansions, and Darkest Night up for grabs if you're looking for not-a-war game.
Looking forward to seeing you all in a couple days!
Scott

I'm guessing Tuesday, June 7th is a travel day for many of you going to Origins. I hope you all have a safe journey and a wonderful time. I'm looking forward to reading all about it over the course of the week. :bigthumb:

Heading down there today around 930am or so to get my badge and start setting up our area.
We'll be posting all sorts of stuff to our Twitter feed throughout the day, so watch twitter.com/ADragoons for "live" coverage from the show.
There's probably going to be some stuff on FB too, but maybe not a ton of "live" stuff directly on the Dragoons site, as we'll do longer written wrapups during the show here.
Y'all try to behave for Bawb whilst Mike & I are Origining, please

Safe trip - and have fun :-)

funniest moment (so far) in the run-up to Origins?
The volunteer who both (1) made a nice post about "PSA: Please be kind to volunteers we do our best but we don't know everything about the show." but also (2) he chimes in on literally every single question people ask whether he knows the answer or not... and usually doesn't

Some folks have a greater sense of irony -- and self-awareness -- than others. ;D

Kudos for getting pics of Stellaris: Infinite Legacy. :bigthumb: (Although I can already tell it's going to be a chore to unpack...)
Also: That photo of the Scotsman playing the Spaceball trooper might be the most iconic one of the entire convention. ;D

there weren't nearly as many costumes this year as normal
if you were going to enter the contest, this was the year to do it since your odds were greatly improved
-
Made it back home! Great drive through the WV mountains yesterday. On the downside I'm at about 65% on the battery meter and I sound like a bad impersonator doing Barry White's voice. Hopefully it's just from all of the talking (I'll take a COVID test later on just to make sure).
For me personally, this was probably my favorite Origins as a GM so far. :bigthumb:

Glad 'you're home safe and had a good trip. :bigthumb:

Glad you guys made it back home okay! And bbmike, that's awesome.

got home in time for dinner last night.
missed the Discord happy hour but was there for the start of Gary's show
everything's out of the car, but a lot of it is still in bags / boxes. I gave the family their loot, but the rest is in my office waiting to unpack

ICv2 reports Origins attendance numbers at 11,689. Up from 2021 (10,746) but still way down from 2019 (20,642).
Still had a great time at our Wargame HQ with all the wonderful players that stopped by to sling dice with us.

Interesting. I got the impression this year's Origins was at least somewhat busier than what those numbers are showing, but of course I wasn't there.

I'm going to try to make it work, brother. No promises at this point, but the itch to go back has remained strong ever since that first time I attended.
