Incidentally, here's a trailer showing snippets of gameplay:
The game's Stellaris "ancestry" is obvious, as is its Hearts of Iron heritage (notice the mission trees). I'm most intrigued...
Coming out on the 13th of october
Where did you see it was coming out October 13? (Not that I'm complaining if it's releasing that soon, just curious.)
Yep based on Stellaris. Which is a good things as that is a great game.
Man, PDox must have deep pockets to get this license and license to use those likenesses.
Yeah, I do have to wonder how much it cost Paradox to get their hands on the Star Trek license. It couldn't have been cheap, though perhaps with Trek games usually doing so poorly, CBS recognized they couldn't be too greedy in how much they charged for it(?). I dunno.
I'm also curious as to which parts of the license Paradox and Nimble Giant got their hands on: With Birth of the Federation, the developers were strictly limited to ships that appeared in TNG episodes and the TNG films. It appears that with Infinite, they have access to the full roster of ships and races in the TNG/DS9/VOY era, which is an improvement.
I really wish ST:I could have started in the TOS era. However, I'm guessing that would have required a completely separate license, and that it would have been cost-prohibitive to purchase two of them for just one game.
So the dream for a proper sequel to Birth of the Federation continues.
This is the closest we will get
Precisely.
And to be honest, this is personally just about all I could've hoped for. Birth of the Federation was my all-time favorite game, until Stellaris came along. For the two to essentially be combined is pretty much my dream come true.
