the fact that we only have "herculean task" and "sisyphean task" feels so limiting. so here's a few more tasks for your repertoire
• icarian task: when you have a task you know you're going to fail at anyways, so why not have some fun with it before it all comes crashing down
• cassandrean task: when you have to deal with people you KNOW won't listen to you, despite having accurate information, and having to watch them fumble about when you told them the solution from the start (most often witnessed in customer service)

Tantalian task: You will never be given the tools or material to complete this task
Promethian task: someone's going to get burned and you'll suffer the consequences.
Odyessian task: Yeah, this is gonna take a little longer than expected.
Jovian task: something you absolutely do not need to do, that will probably cause catastrophic collateral damage to other people, not the least of which being invoking the wrath of your spouse or significant other, that you nevertheless feel compelled to do anyway.
Plutonic task: a necessary task that nobody will ever thank you for.
Penelopine task: something done solely for the purpose of stalling for time.
Orphean Task: You have to go to hell and back to complete it.
Zeussian task: fuck around and find out.
CuChulainn-ian task: when you are the only one dealing with what should be a group project
Thorian task: no matter what the job, just use a huge hammer.
Parisean task - stealing from others and starting an argument over it.
Helenic Task: No matter how you handle the task, you're always at fault and people often make comments about your appearance while laying the blame.
Achilean task: When there's that one little flaw in the plan that you know is going to crash the whole thing, no matter how fantastic the rest of it is.
Hectorian task - when you have a mountain of hard work to do because of someone’s error and/or ineptitude, and in the end you get absolutely nothing for it.
Daedalian task: No matter how many times you tell your coworker not to do something, they do it anyway.
Thesian task: Spend your life fighting against bullshit.
Narcissian task - where you gaze at yourself in a mirror while doing it, like shaving, eyebrow tweezing, or fringe snipping.
Dionycian task. To be done while intoxicated
Pandoran task; You think you only have to do one small task, but it opens up to a world of nasty little tasks.
