Just seen it. Looking good. Wondering why though as there is a Rome 2 after all.

Why, indeed?  (Since it might not be obvious, I'll point out that my OP was a bit sarcastic/tongue-in-cheek. :P )  While Rome II was undeniably in a poor state at launch, the numerous patches eventually brought it up snuff -- to the point that nowadays, it's a much better game than the first RTW ever was.

However, Rome 1 holds a lot of nostalgia for a large percentage of the Total War community -- for many, it was their introduction to the series.  I've seen quite a few requests/please over the years for a RTW remaster, so I suspect a lot of folks will be absolutely salivating over this.

Same here. So many all night sessions of this.

I will begrudgingly get this on sale only for a remastered version of the Alexander and Barbarian Invasion (BI) campaigns. The Alexander campaign is the only Total War game I have never played, and the BI campaign is one of my favorites. But I'm waiting for a sale for sure.

RTW Was my first Total War game I played. And might be the last one I ever won at.

Heh.  The AI in that game was so bad, about the only way you could lose was if you deliberately futzed around, and/or played with house rules that severely handicapped yourself.  If you couldn't beat RTW, then you probably couldn't pass the Turing Test either.  ;D

I didn't need to fiddle about with the rules, I was just a shockingly bad player :-)

"Was"?  (Sorry, couldn't resist.)  :D

Honestly, though, I'm no better.  Despite a lifelong love of 4x and grand-strategy games (for that's what the Total War titles are, even if CA has never called them that), I remain -- at best -- only a mediocre player.  That's perfectly fine, though; it just means the AI in my games consistently provide more of a challenge.  8)

I’m watching a guy called legend of total war on YT who with 350k subscribers I imagine plays the game full time - the stuff he knows about the game is amazing - he played the full empire campaign in a 7hr session which I’m working my way through the only problem is he takes the fun out of most it by using the ai against itself in that he has one cav unit he charges straight to the back of the ai army who now give chase, the rest of his army is all archers and 3 melee troops, the archers en masse literally melt any attackers whilst he micros the cav unit at the back and then slowly teases the enemy towards the archers - hugely effective but no fun

I stumbled across LegendofTotalWar on YouTube around two years ago, and have seen some of his videos.  They can be entertaining to watch, but yeah I wouldn't have any fun playing Warhammer II (or any of the other TW games) the way he does.  His method of ruthlessly employing every cheat & exploit available to win is anathema to me; it essentially renders pointless why so many of us enjoy playing games in the first place.

Bahaha!!  Couldn't have said it better myself, Bawb.  :applause:

You're already hanging out with the rest of us, Steelie, so no further action need be taken.  8)

I am a very mediocre player myself....the good side is that i never get tired of most of the games i play because the normal AI is a good enough challenge for me (except the laughtable AI of Empire: Total War).

Have they ever considered a Bollywood Total War.
I'm not sure this was made in Bollywood as there is no break for a song and dance.
I'm a traditionalist in some things

I must admit I am pretty meh on the ol' remaster stuff. I do not particularly recall RTW being a better gameplay experience than RTW2.

I have really enjoyed the remastered versions of the Age of Empires games.

If they remaster Medieval 2 TW I am jumping all over it too.

I actually think the RTW remaster is a bellwether to test the waters for a M2TW remaster.

I would also like to see a MTW3 but frankly I'd love a Renaissance period release. The shift to black powder and artillery. Of course, this would require CA to actually do improved siege mechanics which might be a bridge too far.

^You and me both. I'd prefer a shift to black powder over black power but this is 2021 after all and I will just go with the flow.

^Heh it will be our little secret.

But since time immemorial (2000) I have begged and pleaded for a Renaissance Total War.

There are tons of mods for the TW games that approach this, but not a dedicated game built from scratch, 1350AD-1550AD.

We may have to build it ourselves.

Rifled, of course!  Better range, plus it keeps things on a straighter trajectory.  ;)

Speaking of rifled artillery, Dan Gallery was the commander who captured U505 in WWII.
He wrote some very funny books after the war and recounted this story.
The ship he was on would cross the equator and he put out this memo
"Scientists studying the coriolas effect have theorized that a fine stream of liquid will have a twist.  North of the equator, this twist will be in a clockwise manner, and South of the equator, the twist will shift to counter-clockwise.
" we shall cross the equator at noon today.  All hands are encouraged to test this theory and report the results.

"The rifling of the instrument determines the twist."
"Twisting the instrument controls the twist of the stream."
"Smoothbore.  No twist."

Agreed, on both parts!

On the other hand, since he is well-known (if not downright infamous) for his ability to find and gleefully take advantage of bugs & exploits like that, I imagine CA will fix that particular issue in short order.  ;)

That was infuriating and hilarious at the same time. Where has The Spiffing Brit been all my life? He has tons of similar videos one dozens if not hundreds of games. If his exploits are legit and not the result of him going into the code and modding these games, how can studios continue to release things like this?

As a one time tester of some commercial software we only ever tested what would make sense

It was software for a breakdown recovery company where the caller asks for car reg, make and model etc - we never tested what would happen if someone typed flat tyre into the make and model box

I imagine this is the same - who would ask for territory in every single diplomatic exchange

Going by other comments I've seen online, you're far from alone in wanting Medieval 2 to be remastered.  I won't be surprised if that (eventually) happens.

Empire, however, is a flat-out bad game; I don't see it ever getting a remaster.  What we need is an Empire 2 -- only done *right*, this time...

Thanks, Gus.  Can't say I disagree with him on his points regarding an Empire 2.  I would still especially like to see Medieval 3 as the next historical title, but a proper Empire sequel (even if it's titled something else) would make me very happy as well.

Interesting points about Medieval 2.  While I admittedly don't find them quite as compelling, I suspect he's still not wrong.

I get sad when I look at how long it's been CA put out a Western-based, medieval or Renaissance game. If they do develop a new one I pray that it is created in a new engine.
