The FoG2 series is great! Hit me up, if you are looking for a PBEM in either FoG2 or FoG2 Medieval.  :waiting:

Personally, I like FoG2 better, for Medieval is like defensive spearmen everywhere. But that's just me and I will have to wrap my head around it!  ;D

There is Pike & Shot. And Sengoku Jidai has matchlock Ashigaru...

But yeah. There used to be an awesome Napoleonics mod for FoG2, but the author hasn't updated it in years.  :(

I've once asked Richard Bodley Scott, if they would tackle Seven Years War and Napoleonics, but they want to go chronologically...  :-[

My understanding is that RBS just isn't that interested in doing the Napoleonic version.

Great pity.

I've read Cyrano's fantastic article on this but was wondering if anyone else is playing it. Any thoughts?

I am playing multiplayer custom battles (don't like the historical battles for you are so limited in tactical choices). As I said, if you are up for a match, let me know.

It differs from FoG2: Units are often smaller (less men, losses have a bigger impact on modifiers; as most armies are dominated by either offensive or defensive spearmen, which negates each other as long as the defensives don't attack, battles are more of a grind, but everything can fall apart quickly once a unit lost a few fights or a row of flanking charges comes in), ranged combat isn't that effective anymore (unless crossbows versus knights or bows versus cavalry and unprotected units, but most are protected), and knights do pursuit longer than normal cavalry.

Needs some time to wrap ones head around it, if you are used to FoG2.
