Found an interesting PowerPoint presentation that has some content on Japanese island defense works at Tarawa, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa:

It has some spelling issues in places (ironic as this is a college presentation), and the design is not the greatest, but the images and info is overall very interesting if you like reading about this kind of thing, as I do.
