I spent many a miserable night on Otterburn. More like the Russian steppes than a national park in the UK  :)

LOL - yes, its a bit rugged out there, but beautiful if you're only driving past it.

It is beautiful...if you can choose your day and time and walk at your leisure.

When it's your job,  and they tell you to do it on the most miserable day ever... and you have to force march 10 and more miles...it's horrible  :)

As my old soldier dad would have said 'If you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined'  ;D

There's definitely truth in that. The whole soldier thing relies on humour - otherwise they'd all just be sitting in a dank, cold, wet hole in the ground crying to each other.

Doesn't that apply to life in general?  :P

Except that only one of them is joined voluntarily

We had a low level fly-over of two AH-64's this morning. They were headed pretty much NW so may well have been heading up to Otterburn Camp in Northumberland  where the army has an extensive training area.

The NC Army National Guard has an entire battalion of AH64s based adjacent to the airport here, so we get them flying around here all over the place most weekends, including a lot of night flights, to maintain the pilots' flying status

Random acts of genius and other inspirations of applied violence.

They probably have more of them than we do.
