Title: Your 2023 Year In Wargaming
Post by: bayonetbrant on December 14, 2023, 03:51:15 PM
(https://www.armchairdragoons.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/2023-Year-end-Research-Splash.png)

Starting this year, we're cranking up a couple of research initiatives.  You've already seen the joint one we launched with Beyond Solitaire to ask about respondents' favorite solo wargames.  We also asked about your favorite ways to engage with wargaming content online.  There's a few larger things brewing for next year, too.

One thing we intend to do going forward is a year-end survey from the wargaming world.  We want to know how your year in wargaming went - did you play more or less compared to last year?  Buy more, or buy less?  New opponents, or the usual suspects?  Favorite game?  Most played game?  Make it to any conventions?

Let us know!
(you do not need a Google acc't to fill out the form)

Would like to fill out yer survey but can't get past second page because I don't know what games were released in 2023, so I can't have a favourite and that's a required question....  :Loser:

here's a list of everything in BGG's database with a 2023 release date that's categorized as a "wargame" (https://boardgamegeek.com/geeksearch.php?action=search&advsearch=1&objecttype=boardgame&q=&include%5Bdesignerid%5D=&geekitemname=&geekitemname=&include%5Bpublisherid%5D=&range%5Byearpublished%5D%5Bmin%5D=2023&range%5Byearpublished%5D%5Bmax%5D=2023&range%5Bminage%5D%5Bmax%5D=&floatrange%5Bavgrating%5D%5Bmin%5D=&floatrange%5Bavgrating%5D%5Bmax%5D=&range%5Bnumvoters%5D%5Bmin%5D=&floatrange%5Bavgweight%5D%5Bmin%5D=&floatrange%5Bavgweight%5D%5Bmax%5D=&range%5Bnumweights%5D%5Bmin%5D=&colfiltertype=&searchuser=bayonetbrant&range%5Bminplayers%5D%5Bmax%5D=&range%5Bmaxplayers%5D%5Bmin%5D=&playerrangetype=normal&range%5Bleastplaytime%5D%5Bmin%5D=&range%5Bplaytime%5D%5Bmax%5D=&familyids%5B%5D=4664&B1=Submit) (though YMMV on the edge cases)

A very worthy effort for sure. The release of the old Avlon Hill game, "War and Peace" in digital format has had me pining for the old days of that board classic. And watching videos of the updated versions I never played.  :dreamer:  Unfortunately I gave-up on board games years ago and the computer version has no AI included as yet, as I understand it. But some of those new games do look good to me. I would have a hard time choosing between them.  :-\

Your 2023 in Wargaming, Part 3 – Conventioneers
https://www.armchairdragoons.com/articles/research/2023results-3/

Last month, we asked you about your 2023 wargaming and we’ve been slowly churning through some results.  Today, we’re looking specifically at the responses revolving around convention attendance.  We asked the audience if they’d attended any conventions over the past year, and a little under half of the respondents reported that they did.

Your 2023 in Wargaming, Part 4 – Crosstabs #2
Back in December, we asked you about your 2023 wargaming  and this series has been looking at the results.

Today, we’ve got one more dive into some tabular data, where we’re taking a look at a couple of different questions where we break out the results based on how long people have been playing wargames.

In our first set of crosstabs, we looked at how long folks have been wargaming vs how much of their wargaming is played solo, and how long folks have been wargaming vs their favorite kind of wargaming media.

Today we’re going to dig a little more into those “how long folks have been wargaming” comparisons.

That's pretty interesting stuff. Since Christmas, I've gotten back into playing John Tiller's Campaign Series. It's ancient but still refreshingly playable today as well as challenging and easy to play. Or maybe it just takes me back...you know? We Wargamers can be an unpredictable bunch.  :o
