Title: Steam Down?
Post by: judgedredd on May 14, 2022, 10:06:12 AM
Is Steam down for anyone? I cannot get logged in. It's been like that for 20 minutes now. Rebooted. Switched off VPN. Nothing. Nada.

I'm in it OK at the moment.

I can get into steam, but I can't get to my profile.

It's not saying the credentials are wrong...just that I can't get to the server.

I just took both turns in a PBEM Civ game through Steam.  Working good here.

Back in now.

I've never had an issue getting onto Steam (my profile specifically) before...but there was defo an issue with me being able to access my account.

I was a bit panicky - thought maybe my account had been hacked/stolen.

That's always the one thing that has made me leery about Steam throughout the years, being denied access to my games.  Whether through hacking or the platform going tits up.

Yep. I've been hacked a couple of times in the past and its very frustrating and annoying. Plus, its a right old carry-on to get it put right again. I hate the feeling of not being able to have total control over the games that I have purchased.

Bob, do you know how you were hacked?

Not really, but it did seem as if my steamguard had not worked as it should. We found out later that the phone I had at the time was a Windows phone, and it seems that there was/is an on-going problem with not being able to download the app correctly. I have since changed to an android and now it seems to work ok.

The same think happened to Den and for the same reason, again, now fixed.

It was a nightmare because to raise a ticket, we kept being told to log onto our account, which of course we couldn't do. Fortunately, we were able to contact the help desk via each others account, but I did despair of getting it sorted out. I had to prove it was me by showing them that I had paid for games through steam, which is a bugger when you can't actually log onto your account.

Whilst there are many obvious advantages to Steam, its an absolute bugger when the end falls off! Sometimes trying to actually speak to someone as opposed to a program with set, and a limited range of, questions just sends you around in circles.

I should mention that fortunately I had no money in my Steam account, and really not that many games. They did, however, dump my friends list and the groups, and joined a few other groups. In both cases, the hackers were situated 'East of Poland'...........

I'm always nervous now when I log onto Steam, just in case.

Thanks for the info. I have my Steam app on an iPhone so hopefully Tim Cook & Co. are looking out for us us in the Apple Ecosystem.
