My youngest son once asked my dear late pop-in-law the old joke question 'What's brown and sticky' The answer he got was 'Your grandma's gravy'

A US Army soldier tests a StG-44 captured from the Vietcong during the Vietnam War
(https://i.redd.it/qpsj6fb1qpo11.jpg)
-
Plain to see the origin of the AK-47
-
Apparently, the Soviets provided their proxies with a lot of captured German weapons. The Vietcong ended up with a fair number of StG-44s.
-
That is interesting - I didn't know that.
-
I didn't either:
These guns were not as rare as one might imagine after WWII. Despite the relatively small (compared to the 98k rifle) number made before Germany’s surrender, a disproportionate quantity was retained due to the weapon’s modern nature. Tens of thousands were captured by the Soviets in 1945; later in that decade some were transferred to the new client regimes in East Europe, notably East Germany and (especially) Czechoslovakia. By the latter half of the 1950s, these armies had moved on to the SKS and AK-47 and began doling out their StG-44s abroad. North Vietnam’s StG-44s came from at least two sources: the USSR, as part of it’s late-1950s first tranche of military aid; and then a smaller quantity from Czechoslovakia. It’s possible that a very small number were also delivered from East German reserve warehouses in the early 1960s. These guns were never “common” but at least very early in the Vietnam War, they were not particularly rare either. These guns were rarely seen after the January 1968 Tet offensive.

-
And of course, to the casual observer, they would have appeared to have been AK-47's.
-
Quite true.

Shocking statistics when you think about it. I'm sure I've seen that photo before - I think its Antietam and was one taken by Gardner and subsequently put on public display causing much outrage.

The M1 carbine is the oddest little weapon. Expensive as hell if you go to buy one - at least here in Canada. Sorta like a combat rifle for midgets.

I'm very familiar with IVAS.

I'd be concerned about, 'IVANs' hacking into the tech and making the grunts shoot each other by seeing images of Vlad riding bareback through their kill zone.

Don't you have ASDA? ;D

Yeah, we do.

I liked that one store I went to. The taxi driver took me there because the airline hadn't delivered my bag yet and I needed clothes for work the next day. It's like Wal-Mart but much cleaner and less inbred-ness. ;D
-
Yeah, its fairly typical of the larger store chains that we have, such as Tesco, Sainsbury and Morrisons.
-
Marks & Spenser ?
-
M&S - yes, although more know as a clothes store these days, although they do have a food hall as well. Usually good quality stuff but tends to be s bit more expensive.
-
Where I'm from, 'in-bred' means you do it, 'inside' not outside, which is an option of course for those not allergic to grass or pollen in the, 'sensitive' areas. Never done it a Wal-Mart though.... maybe in the Automotive Lounge?

O:-)

It's always a toss-up who NOT to turn your back on at Wally World, the customers or the employees. :worried: Still Wal-Mart is a magical place, everything you need is there but always on the other side of the store.

There was a US version as well,
The Cushman 53.
Cushman made golf carts and mail delivery vehicles as well. IIRC, they even made ice cream vending carts.
-
Good job they didn't mix them up for an airdrop.
Just imagine - the hitherto little known 17th Airborne Div's 535th Golf-Cart regiment :-)
-
535th Golf-Cart regiment
I believe that unit is currently in the USAF
-
...so, who got the ice cream vending carts?
-
The Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders probably
-
Have you seen some those Golf Carts today? They could go head to head with an M1 Abrams. :o And put a couple of Snowbirds in it late for their Tee Time and you've got a Death Machine. :worried:
-
The Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders probably
That regiment no longer exists. They were amalgamated with other regiments in 2006.

I think it was before then, b/c I remember being at their museum at Stirling Castle in 2004 and there was a video about them shutting down the regiment.
-
Knew a guy who was a legal clerk in an artillery battalion. The officers joked that he was the most dangerous man in the unit.
It was decided that the organization was all wrong. They should be a artillery clerk in a legal battalion.
No enemy could withstand it.
