Is that Albuera? How you do you like it, Hethwill?

Yeah is Albuera 1811

I really like it. Is a very uncomplicated portrayal of the battle, to the point where my daughter actually liked it.

Command points dictate how many Zones you may activate ( all units per zone ).

The zones and approaches way of working the terrain is pretty good. It contains both position and loss of it in the same mechanic which i felt is something I might "steal" as inspiration for a future kriegspiel.

Combat is dramatic and very involved. There's little downtime for the players and the entire battle flows very easy and fast. It might swing a bit on the rolls but still is an acceptable outcome.

Suggested to my daughter that we play the next game with hidden activations. Meaning we both roll for Command points and then use cards or pieces of paper or whatever to decide which zones we want to activate in our respective turns. Then we show them when it is our time to activate.

I think it will change the game dynamic dramatically, as it simulates the orders going out simultaneously, without taking anything out of the game mechanic strengths.

Highly recommended wargame, both for welcoming new players and veterans that are not "full of themselves of grognardness" ( if you get my meaning ).

Had a smashing game of Albuera 1811 with daughter.

https://twitter.com/Hethwill_Khan/status/1307050327515041793

Got smashed and i'm not going to excuse myself with the "I rolled a ton of 1's while she rolled mostly 6's" because is not an excuse.. but the plain truth...

I'm curious, did you get the box version or the print and play version? The game looks great and the area movement reminds me of Eagles of the Empire series by Avalanche press. Oh, I just checked and Compass games published Eagles of the Empire: Spanish Eagles about 12 years ago. I didn't know that...

Anyway, I ask about the print and play because I'm thinking of trying that out and this is one of the games I might eventually purchase and assemble.

Absolutely.
They do run some excellent sales now and then.

Andy has been going for ever, although he he is semi-retired now. We used to see him at shows quite a lot when he first started up. I can very clearly remember buying 'World in Flames' off him at a show in Edinburgh, and that is a lot of years ago.

Currently trying to learn Rogue State by Tiny Battle Publishing while also desperately trying to avoid shampooing the carpets and a number of other chores, too.  ;D
