Don't think much has changed.... I've read rumours that most of the cast doesn't like to be seen with him.....
Title: Re: Space!
Post by: mirth on September 17, 2018, 01:03:02 PM
I think he's mellowed somewhat over the years, but he was never a favorite with the rest of the cast. He was a real ass during the run of the TV series - counting lines to make sure he had the most, shit like that. He's been fairly candid about it in some interviews, not really apologetic, but he at least acknowledges that it pissed people off.

Very pretty. I wonder what the different colour actually indicate?
Title: Re: Space!
Post by: Barthheart on September 17, 2018, 04:21:37 PM
Gravity strength. Red is high, blue low. But what the relative values are I don't know.
Title: Re: Space!
Post by: bob48 on September 17, 2018, 04:24:55 PM
Interesting. Are some of the craters deep enough to cause a higher gravity effect, do you think?
Title: Re: Space!
Post by: Barthheart on September 17, 2018, 04:26:43 PM
I'm guessing it's more like what ended up at the bottom or more compressed at the bottom.
Title: Re: Space!
Post by: bob48 on September 17, 2018, 04:30:33 PM
So if the impact had been caused by substantial iron or maybe nickel iron rich meteors then that could account for it, being higher density material?
Title: Re: Space!
Post by: Barthheart on September 17, 2018, 04:32:00 PM
That would be my guess.

Perhaps it shows how the the moon's gravity has been affected by meteor strikes or perhaps what types of different materials those meteors deposited into the Moon's surface?

My favorite, though, is probably those two neighboring/colliding(?) galaxies in the lower left corner.  There's something almost...iconic about that image.

It is the girdle maker, Playtex, who famously sold the Cross Your Heart bra.

Before that, astronauts had to be tethered, so those jetpacks were a pretty big deal.

So much so that they used them in Moonraker, which is not the greatest Bond movie but it has a great deal of appeal as a cheesy action flick. Though, I think the technology postdated the movie, lol.

 :2funny:

My stepfather was HUGE into Bond, and that's where I got my interest from. I find appeal in each of the movies, though some are certainly better than others. I actually enjoyed Lazenby's movie quite a bit but I know I'm in the vast minority there.

I love board games about space - I'm finding that my interest is more into 'realistic' ones, not sci-fi (though sci-fi is certainly fascinating to me). I'd find Space Corps or Terraforming Mars, for example, more appealing than Talon or Space Empires, if I had to make a choice. Though SC and TM aren't exactly 'realistic' they're more so in the bounds of a possible future reality, if that makes any sense.

Do you recall his earlier TV series, the Saint?  In that he was sort of a Robin Hood character, working to catch nasty crooks and save the life savings of little old ladies.
It always seemed that he just played Bond as an older, world-wearier Saint.  Things were desperate, but never really serious.
If he told a villainess that he would beat her up,. It was just an empty threat.  He'd never do something so...so cadish.
Whereas if Sean Connery told a woman of evil that he would hurt her, you knew it would happen.
Watch the opening of Diamonds Are Forever.  He wants revengehe for Tracy s death

even before that, he's got several scenes in Dr No and FRWL where he gets pretty rough with different folks, including the ladies.  Less so in Goldfinger / Thunderball, but he pushes a few around again in YOLT.

Last Friday (2 October 2020) was the launch of Northrop Grumman’s Antares rocket and Cygnus cargo spacecraft from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility near Chincoteague Island, VA. It was a cargo supply mission for the International Space Station. I recorded this video on my iPhone. My POV was looking across water towards the Chesapeake Bay and in the direction of the launch site. Not great quality but still pretty cool to watch.
