Title: ROMANES EUNT DOMUS
Post by: bob48 on June 03, 2023, 02:02:02 PM
Given that I live in an area that is rich in old Roman sites, including parts of 'The Wall' (no, not the Pink Floyd one), apart from a dabble with the the Total war game, I've not even played any board games that featured the Romans.

I know its quite a popular period for gamers, so I'm interested to see which board games people do/have played and how good those game are.

"Romanes eunt domus"? People called Romanes, they go, the house?

Caesar: Epic Battle of Alesia (Avalon Hill, 1976)

Druid: Boudicca’s Rebellion, 61 A.D. (West End Games, 1984)

I Am Spartacus! (COMMAND Magazine, 1992)

Solitaire Caesar (White Dog Games, 2006)

Agricola, Master of Britain (Hollandspiele, 2016)

The Wars of Marcus Aurelius (Hollandspiele, 2018)

Aurelian: Restorer of the World (Hollandspiele, 2020)

Stilicho: Last of the Romans (Hollandspiele, 2020)

Great Battles of Julius Caesar (GMT, 2022)

These are all really great games, but it just depends on what you're looking for. Something strategic or tactical? Solo play only?

Lots of interesting sounding games there, BC  :bigthumb:

Not me personally, Mike, no. Although there are a couple of places in the garden that could do with a bit of a digging over.  ;D

I've got this one on the way from Hollandspiele

Quote
It is the year of Vespasian and Titus - the sixth such ordinary consulship that Titus shared with his Imperial father. The civil war of a decade ago is but a memory, and the Flavians have restored peace and order to all corners of the empire, save one. The people of Brittania remain fiercely resistant to the will of their Roman masters, and the emperor has charged YOU with the seemingly impossible task of bringing them to heel.
