Anyone who plays WW2 games on the theme of the campaigns in North Africa, will probably associate the name of Vance von Borries, who has, over the years, designed a fair number of games on the subject.

Its a period which has long held an interest for me, and, without again relating all the reasons, which I have done in previous posts and therefore wish to avoid boring the pith helmet off y'all, will just mention that my dad served in that theatre, and my first ever board wargame from back in the late 1960's, was Afrika Korps by Avalon Hill.

Anyway, going back a lot of years, there was a von Borries 'Kasserine' game published in the old 3W magazine which I really liked and played a lot. So, my interest was piqued when Compass took the game and re-issued it. The original one-map, 1/2" counter game, was up-graded to 2 new maps and 5/8" counters and lots of new graphics and support material, plus a revamping of the rules by the designer, as you would expect.

So, when JD obtained a copy of the game, I embarked on a campaign of my own to encourage him to get it on the table to see how it plays. In others words, I kept moaning at him...........
Now, since JD has had a sudden attack of the outrageous hats, and is anxiously waiting for his Eagles of France games to arrive from Hexasim (my brain cannot cope with the idea of a Napoleon with a Glaswegian accent.........'Oh aye, laddie, attack me would ye - stitch that, Blucher!') so, to shut me up, he has loaned me his copy of the game so that I can try it myself and leave him in peace  ;D

Therefore, you may expect a review and some AAR's in the fulness of time :-)

It would go something like this

"My Lord, one insnae gonna gee any leeway...thou shall remove oneself from the battlefield or one will get one's heed caved in wae tha malky...ok, Jimmy?"

Or roughly along those lines. I've been away a while

I've been playing the 6-turn 'Faid Pass' scenario in order to get used to the system as it only uses part of one map a not too many counters. Its really a quite interesting system although still a bit of referring to the rule book, but its starting to fall into place.
