Can we have a sticky for Kickstarter boardgames?
I was kind of smitten when I bought LnL 85 - and I'd like to know more - and the kickstarter website for searching is pretty poor.
-
Yes, Brant. Feed the addicts! :2funny:
-
Addiction Enablement: it's the neighborly thing to do!
-
Now we have a stickied KS thread that will never be updated. :applause:
-
Thanks you :bigthumb:
Now we just need people in the know to share great kickstarter projects to save us all money! :idiot2:

Every Tuesday Newsday update includes a section on just-launched preorders/kickstarters
https://www.armchairdragoons.com/category/news/
This week included Worthington's new Bulge game, a Roll Player expansion, and the preorders for Avalanche's new Black Panthers expansion for the PG series and the personal article that Mike Benninghof wrote to go with it

We have a news page? :bigthumb:

It's a place for Brant to hide information he doesn't want discussed on the forums.

It can be found on the front page.

No, we have a front page that has a weekly news/headlines article

Sounds complicated.

Couldn't you just tweet it out instead of us having to go look for it.

Just go dig through a bunch of old articles.

Am I the only one amused every single time by the fact that JD is sticky for Kickstarter? ;D
-
lol - it does kind of amuse me. But it's also sad :waah:

Great. Now I have to remember what day Tuesday is as well as there's a Front Page. Actually, I do check the Front Page regularly...… Don't tell anybody.

There's a new, stand-alone game for Core Space called Core Space: First Born up on Kickstarter now. Scheduled for release in Oct 2021. £89 + shipping for the game the first expansion, and all stretch goals.

Whole thing was £100

OK, this update made me chuckle....
yes, it was back in May, but I just saw it today

There just has to be someone on this site interested in THIS Kickstarter:

I can't think of anyone who would be remotely interested.......

Where's his Bolter Gun?

Nah, not 40K. I think its some French bloke falling off his 'orse.

Pffft. I doubt he's even French; he doesn't appear to be running away.

"A Most Fearful Sacrifice" on the battle of Gettysburg by Hermann Luttman published by Flying Pig Games is up on kickstarter today. I got to do a decent amount of playtesting for this one, it's a really solid game.

Hermann is a great dude!
-
Plus, we've been needing a game that covers Gettysburg! :hehe:
-
Ran across this when pledging the "A Most Fearful Sacrifice." Not a game, but I thought there might be some interest for something like this:
WATERLOO: Napoleon's Last Army
An art book of the French army at the battle of Waterloo

I'm not knocking it, trust me. ;)

Indeed. That, and alcohol.

Coelacanths would never wander as far north as Judge Dredd's stomping grounds. They might go as far as East Anglia if the tour package was cheap and included at least one or two karaoke nights.

I think you will find that JD's stomping ground, as opposed to his place of origin, is further south than East Anglia ;D
-
Dunno why, but I had the impression JD was in the East Midlands somewhere.
-
South East, if memory serves correctly.

Well, I just blew my record of "never ever having backed a Kickstarter project."
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/usslaffey/uss-laffey-the-ship-that-would-not-die-game
It's only $35 and is due to come out in August this year. Looked pretty compelling and won a bunch of awards for the BGG PnP Wargame contest in 2019. They're at just over eight grand now over a goal of $600. :)

It's not a bad idea... thermal mass and a hot baking surface. (Yes, I watch America's Test Kitchen.)
Plus a 0.25 in 10×10 sheet of A36 is like $70 from McMaster Carr.

Oh it’s a great idea, but the steel can be had for less money and any size you want.

ASTM A36 is a structural quality mild carbon steel.
Cheap stuff, in other words.

Could you do the same thing with a $20-$40 pizza stone?

I wanted to love this - I really did. It's got obvious aspects that made me think of Fields of Fire which I truly love.
However, the playthrough I was watching kind of left me slightly underwhelmed. My concerns are
- The card driven aspect - limit of 2 turns (play through 2 decks) and it's over
I guess that number may change between scenarios - but it's a bit like the mechanic in the Aliens boardgame and I wasn't over-enamoured with it then - Those grids can become very congested
I thought Fields of Fire got messy - but this looks like it might take it to a new level with a terrain card, multiple unit cards, multiple weapon cards and various counters to boot - The fact that the enemy is known and actions are also done by cards. If they could've implemented something like Fields of Fire, I would've have been all over this like a drooling puppy
I mean - there's not a chance I'm not going to back it - but man - I wish was what I hoped for when I first heard about it - an updated, graphically pleasing Fields of Fire - and from Lock and Load to boot who seem to be kings among men when it comes to providing manuals that read well, make sense and help you get into the game.
But yeah - I am in.

Pledging seems to be a bit slow on this one. :'(
This one just isn't grabbing my attention like it seems to for some of y'all
-
Me either. I don't see how this would be any better than LnL Tactical, which I already enjoy. Besides, I have Warfighter WW2 and that seems like the same sort of thing to me.
-
There are definitely aspects I'm not hugely keen on.
But LnL games are excellent quality and their last kickstarter I bought had excellent bonuses so I had to pledge.
Like I posted above, I had hoped this would be a LnL version of Field of Fire...alas not but it was still worthy of my attention
-
This was never going to be like Fields of Fire or Warfighter. It’s a pretty direct descendant of Up Front but in the LnLT world.
Not sure I’m gonna jump in because of price and shipping but…
But they did just announce today that ALL stretch goals have been unlocked, regardless of level. This is LnLP wanting everyone to get everything that they already have ready to go.
My wallet is currently hiding from me….. :face:

It looks like Kevin MacRay is doing the module for Compass according to a thread on BGG. It sounds like it could be a couple of months still before they release it though.
Luckily I was able to snag a copy from CLS games on BGG since the current print run is sold out. A really minor ding on a corner of the box got it with shipping and their
cc/paypal charge for $175.

Besides Eleven, I went in on the Dreadnought pledge for ISS Vanguard (https://gamefound.com/projects/awaken-realms/iss-vanguard#/product/10710).

I've played the base game a few times and enjoyed it for what it is, even though I find it's a bit light for my tastes. I actually think I like the Warhammer 40K version (Heroes of Black Reach) more than the WWII stuff despite the fact that I'm not a fan of the 40K universe or the minis system. That might be due to the fact that I've only played the 1st edition rules of the WWII version (physical and the digital versions of the game). I've not yet tried the new version of the game but review say it's much less clunky and seems more fluid. Hopefully that's the case.

I'll probably back it but I'm not sure why. I haven't gotten nearly as much play out of the base game as I'd hoped I would have. COVID lockdowns killed off much of the FLGS gaming nights here and the game didn't really click with my usual group of gaming buddies so it just gathers dust on my shelf.
-
Gonna be a lot more expensive this time around…. :(
-
Compass is doing that last-minute-cash-grab-thru-Kickstarter thing
This time is just for 3 days on a combo pack of The Russian Campaign and Third World War (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/compassgames/the-third-world-war-designer-signature-edition?ref=armchairdragoons) and apparently Compass just really wants to kill Muscovites
-
Too big :(
-
and apparently Compass just really wants to kill Muscovites
I had a bad infestation of Muscovites once. Chewed through the vent stack of my plumbing and let the washing machine flood my garage. Took forever to get rid of them. I didn't really want to hurt them, but geeze.

Larry Correia designed a minis skirmish game based on his series of novels, Monster Hunter International. Larry's an avid minis painter and gamer as well as an author. Not backing this one myself but others might be interested.

Ha! I remember reading the first two-or-three books in that series.
-
I read the first one. I'd be very disappointed if the game doesn't include very detailed stats about all the weapons and ammunition.

yeah, I wonder how much of a bath they took on the last one considering it was getting shipped right as the rates were starting to go up

They have already had lots of comments on th price. Their official line is that the cost of everything, paper, shipping, manufacturing etc, has gone up by significant amounts over the past 2 years since the last one.
Gonna be hard to stretch for it… but hard not to jump in as it’s a great system.
-
honestly, given the rates that some of the prices have gone up over the past 2 years, I really think this one is perfectly reasonable.

Already had one. Didn't take. ;)
-
Price isn't final...could still be worse
-
Also - damn if people posting something that reminds you of a game doesn't make you want to get it to the damn table.
And here's me really enjoying The Last Hundred Yards :nope:
-
Well...I had to subscribe of course :groovy:
-
I’m out. Too rich for me. :(
-
Yup, missed out on the Early Bird. I'm out.
-
But the next option was only 5% more. Early Bird was 30% off, whereas Main Strike was 25% off. Really only $10 in it.
I like the system. I know it's not quite the deal that was the original - but I'd have picked this up anyway so I might as well get a discount
-
270% funded and all stretch goals have been unlocked.
Shame Operation Red Gauntlet wasn't part of the stretch goal group.

If I were to get it, it'd only be due to my completionist nature. My copy of base game hasn't seen much play. Many of the pre-pandemic FLGS game nights I attended are no more and the guys in my regular gaming group don't really care for the game. The wargame guys in the group find it a bit too light and the non-wargaming guys find it too long. Go figure. Given the limited time to game, I find that I'd much rather play other titles in my library so, on the shelf it sits and gathers dust.
-
I see your point.
I'll be honest - mine hasn't seen the light of day much so I guess I'm buying it out of "completeness".
However, it's not seen much daylight due to time rather than not enjoying the system...so I'm sure in my twilight years I'll have much fun. And I do like games sharing a rule set - it expands your game as well as keeping it easy to learn.
That brings me to a question - which I'll post in Symposia
-
3 new stretch goals added with possibly more to come.
-
Ugh! All stretch goals for Blood & Fury now unlocked. Lots of cool stuff.
If I go for base pledge plus the expansion 8 map scenarios the total comes to $195 CAD. Then shipping on top of that! :o
Pretty much twice as expensive as the first one.
But soooo cooool! :idiot2:
Somebody talk me down from the ledge… campaign ends in 2 days… :Loser:

You really expect any of us to talk you down on this? Who do you think we are ⁉️

10 hours left... but I think I out. Just too much money for a single game that will only end up being played solo..... :-\
-
Yup, I managed to not back this or Leviathans. I have the shakes now.
-
Yup, I managed to not back this or Leviathans. I have the shakes now.
I took the plunge on this one.
As cool as Leviathans looks, I'm not convinced that Catalyst isn't going to gack up the meta-plot and expansions for it, so I took a pass on it.
-
I never played the original Leviathans so I don't really care about backstory or plot. It looks very cool but I've already got Star Wars: Armada, Sails of Glory, Battletech, and Cruel Seas if I wanna play with ships blasting one another. None of them get as much table-time as it is so adding another game to the pile seems like a bad idea. (hasn't stopped me from hitting the pledge button and nearly completing my order half a dozen times though)

There is always a cost to be paid; it's just not always monetary in nature.

I apologize if this has already been mentioned somewhere but there ae only a few days left to back Compass Games' American Tank Ace, a solitaire game along the lines of Patton's Best and Tiger/Sherman Leader.

I like fruit cake! :)

I backed American Tank Ace, though it was last minute. Another awesome Gregory Smith design1 :bigthumb:
I suppose I should confess my backing sins. Hi everyone. I'm BC, and I'm now addicted to backing projects.
On Kickstarter, I have:
Cruel Necessity Deluxe Edition - I have the original from VPG but was just too intrigued by the improved components.
911 Operator Board Game - having been a paramedic, this kind of thing always interests me.
Patriot - looks like a great game with a solo mode. I'm going to be providing the publisher/designer with proofing and editing assistance.
Age of Comics: The Golden Years - looks fantastic and I'm hooked.
La Granja Master Deluxe Set - I won this in a giveaway, so this at least is a freebie. But, it looks fun.
On Gamefound, I have:
Escape from New York - I mean, Snake. Come on.
In Dreams
Kingdom Come: Deliverance - I backed the all in version, but the developer/publisher decided to cancel the project as they didn't get nearly the money amount they thought they would.
Tainted Grail: Kings of Ruin - their Knight of Avalon pledge, which is all in but sans sundrop minis.
Trick Shot - a hockey game with prepainted minis. Gameplay looks a lot of fun.
Eleven: Football Manager Board Game - originally this was my second backed game, from last year. I helped proof the rules so I'm in the credits, and they even did a player card to use my ugly mug likeness.
Bot Factory - sounds like a lot of fun, plus peer pressure, man.
Escape from Stalingrad Z
Purple Haze
The Dark Quarter
The Elder Scrolls V: The Skyrim Adventure Game
Now, that's a lot, I know. What else is new - the more things change, the more they stay the same. Still, these are all delivered over the next year or so, so it's all spread out, and I'm not buying anything other than these. I should be set for, oh, the next hundred years I think. :D
-
I back American Tank Ace as well. Got my copy a few weeks ago.
-
I backed this one today. So much for culling the collection rather than expanding it.

Some very nice figures, though.
Den is interested as she was a big fan of the TV series (and has a tee-shirt to prove it!).

Not a game but seems really good and cheap for head tracking device.

Just backed it. Delivered for ~$138 CAD is a steal. :bigthumb:

Ooof!
Looks like the poor buggers who backed Devil Pigs' Heroes of the Pacific just got royally screwed. (as did the two guys who designed the games in the series).
I'm glad I managed to get all my Heroes of Normandie: Battle of Caen before the rug was pulled out from under everyone.

-
yeah, it seems to be that the original company was purchased by a new holding company, and those guys severely mis-managed the business to point that French bankruptcy court ruled that they needed to shut down the company
-
FWIW, last week, we had the announcement the designers published on social media about the company situation in TN
-
Grrr....typed out a long post and it failed to upload.
Anyway, I have a few small expansion items for Heroes of Normandie on backorder through Kolossal Games, Devil Pigs' US distribution holding. I emailed them about a month ago to ascertain the status of my order once I'd read the news about the bankruptcy in France. They responded and said the items had already been received at the US warehouse and were just waiting to be sent out. Since then, zero communications.
Seems like more and more Kickstarters are failing and leaving the backers empty-handed or worse. The slow motion train wreck that is Mythic Games' handling of the Darkest Dungeon and Rainbow 6: Siege boardgames is fascinating to watch. The way the company just brazenly extrorted backers for more money blows my mind. How it's not criminal is beyond me. Even more so, if you read the Kickstarter or BGG forums, there are still a few white knights with Stockholm syndrome defending the company and lashing out at people just trying to recoup some of their losses.
I've got 3 Kickstarters that I'm waiting on. I'm confident that Steve Jackson Games will make good on their delivery of my Car Wars stuff. SAS - Rogue Regiment sounds like it's proceeding nicely but is delayed (the norm for KS projects, it seems.) I'm reasonably confident they'll deliver. I just hope it's before next Feb when they start pulling the tried and tested "sorry, it's Chinese New Year. Things are delayed. Maybe September?" excuse. I'm much less confident about Age of Dogfights: WWII. It was supposed to have been delivered in autumn, 2021. The developer is still putting out monthly updates where he's tweaking the rules. He pointedly ignores questions about delivery dates but it's disconcerting that he's not even finalized the rules for a game that's 2 years behind schedule.
-
I've got about a dozen total crowdfunded projects out there, all but one of which are games/game stuff
Reaper Bones 6 - not worried at all
Haithabu - I think they'll deliver, but I'm annoyed with how long it takes them to get any info out
Realms of Elghrune - got the PDFs, just waiting for hard copies
Halls of Montezuma - Kevin's gonna deliver
WOIN - They'll deliver, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's after January
MicroDungeons - it's moving OK
A few other PDF-only print-&-plays due once they close, but those pretty much always come in
Also got Blood & Fury from LNLP and the Fighting Fantasy card game on Gamefound, and while B&F is really late, I know the backstory and I'm not worried about it
The only potentially shady one is my non-game project and they've been sharing a lot of photo updates of manufacturing in progress
-
My Collector's edition of Age of Comics arrived on Sunday. Another successful backing for me, thankfully.
Escape from New York - was demoed at Essen and is moving right along. I'm guessing it'll ship next year sometime.
Purple Haze - they say they're starting production and will deliver in Q1 2024.
Tainted Grail Kings of Ruin - they say they're going to start delivering in December this year (I'll believe it when I see it).
Trick Shot (2nd Edition) - should be shipping by mid-December, so they say...everything was just delivered in Florida and needs to be organized for distribution to us U.S. folks.
The Dark Quarter - delivery will be "next year" but judging from the amount of updates, they're still early in the process and nowhere near ready to start production. I'm guessing Q3 of next year.
911 Operator The Board Game - they had some hiccups and offered to refund to a lot of backers, but I'm sticking with them as they still are talking about improving the game. We shall see, I hope.
ISS Vanguard - I ordered it via The Game Steward, the full Dreadnought version, which would come in two waves. Wave 1 was shipped, but when they asked me if I wanted to wait for Wave 2 or get Wave 1 now and then pay more for shipping Wave 2, I opted to just get both of them at the same time. The English version of Wave 2 apparently had some snafus (of course) so it probably won't get delivered until early next year, but I could be wrong.
I didn't think I had that much, but that's seven outstanding preorders right now. Woot. I've been tempted to back more but right now I'm good.
