Holy crap. Looks like my wish is actually coming true! :D
https://www.matrixgames.com/game/field-of-glory-kingdoms
EDIT: Forgot to add, apparently it's going to support MP for up to 16 people. Glee!

Some additional info (and screenshots) during today's Home of Wargamers event. Coverage starts at the 1:00:00 mark, and lasts for around 11 minutes.
-
I cannot wait. GIGGITY
-
Yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to this one. I didn't spend as much time with FoG:E as I should have, but I liked what I saw when I did play it.
A similar game, set in the medieval period, with additional improvements & refinements, is exactly what I was hoping AGEOD would come out with someday. :)
-
^Me too, breh. In the second video you posted above, it's mentioned that the graphics and UI have been refined...images of it are shown too, which is exactly what I have wanted since FoG: E as well.
-
^ Agreed! All things considered, FoG: Kingdoms is looking damn good so far. For me personally I would even go so far as to say it's already overtaken Knights of Honor II: Sovereign as my most-anticipated medieval-era grand-strategy game.
-
I've really got to stop reading these game threads that Martok posts. Not good for the wallet.
-
You're welcome. >:D
-
Where the hell is Knights of Honor 2 anyway? Supposed to be released this year but the silence from the developer is deafening.
-
Honestly, I would like to know as well. They're still putting out dev diaries, but I've not seen them say one damn word about about a release date. :kling:
-
Do you have a link to the latest dev diary?

From May 4th:

Nice thank you!
-
Nothing beats Knights of Honour 2 for me but I am going to get this game as well even though I have to admit that I have barely played the first game (I have yet to understand how it plays)
-
^ It'll be interesting to see which game gets released first. The way things seem to be currently going, I'm betting on Field of Glory: Kingdoms.

Me too... seems to be almost finished (though KoH2 as well). Slitherine is a fairly aggressive publisher.
-
I missed the boat on the first Knights of Honor when it was new so I am really looking forward to the new one. No indication on when it will be released, really...so Kingdoms will be a nice stop-gap.
-
Slitherine is a fairly aggressive publisher.
Heretofore, yes. I suspect the disastrous launch of Distant Worlds 2 has made them a bit more cautious, however. Henceforth, I don't think they'll be releasing any game (especially those with high expectations) until it's been thoroughly tested and ready to rock.
...so Kingdoms will be a nice stop-gap.
Personally, i hope it turns out to be much more than a stop-gap. I wasn't kidding when I said I'm now looking forward to FoG:K even more than Knights of Honor 2 (though I'm still eagerly anticipating that one as well).

How dare you

I like to stir the pot sometimes.

Nearly a year has passed, and we finally have our first dev diary, which talks about religion. Hopefully this is a sign the game is still coming out this year...

Dev Diary 2 - The Balance of Authority:
https://www.slitherine.com/news/field-of-glory-kingdoms-the-balance-of-authority
The Authority and Disorder system while being very flavourful and thematic to middle-age games also prevents easy snow-balling and captures the rise and fall of empires/kingdoms.
Please let this be so. 'Tis a consummation devoutly to be wished.

Sounds like we'll get to see new footage during "Field of Glory Day" on Slitherine's Twitch channel tomorrow:

On the flip side, Marco mentioned during last week's TeaTime video that the game would not be coming out this year. :( Bummer, but at least now we know.
-
???

The game got a lot of coverage during the "Field of Glory Day" stream -- footage begins around the 1:22:00 mark, and goes on for a little over an hour.
Bloody hell, Kingdoms is looking good. It makes it that much more frustrating that it's not releasing until 2024; gah!

Haven’t played any of the franchise
Have I misunderstood kingdoms - is the experience diminished by not exporting the battles to the battle games or have I got it all wrong?
-
^I think you're right...exporting the battles is time consuming and a bit of a pain in the ass but fun.

To answer your questions in order:
1.) Yes, you have.
2.) No, it is not.
3.) Yes, you have.
The combat system in Field of Glory: Empires is actually pretty dang decent. It stands on its own, and I'm quite certain it will in Kingdoms as well.
If you want a quick overview, just watch the first few minutes of this tutorial video (narrated by Dastactic) that shows off the game's auto-combat:
It's easy and straightforward, yet also still provides reasonable results given the troops and terrain involved. And of course, you can still simply auto-resolve entirely, or export the battle to Field of Glory II if you wish.
Honestly, the ability to export battles to Field of Glory II is a neat feature, but it's also something a gimmick -- one that is entirely unnecessary to the enjoyment of Field of Glory: Empires. I 100% guarantee it will be just as unnecessary for Field of Glory: Kingdoms as well.
Quite frankly, I think Slitherine over-hyped the ability to export battles to Field of Glory II, and I'm concerned they're going to make the same mistake with Kingdoms. I'm pretty sure that by doing so, they caused -- directly and/or directly -- sales of FoG:Empires to suffer, as a lot of folks felt it would've been necessary to also purchase FoG2 in order to have the "full" experience, and thus they didn't purchase either game (unless they already owned FoG2).
-
Yep that’s me in a nutshell - thinking the ‘draw’ was been able to export the battles and this was the best thing ever
I haven’t got time for that shit!! If it can create decent battles with sensible outcomes on auto then it might be a TW replacer
-
^It has the potential to be but is not there yet.

Which is completely understandable. I'm quite certain many felt the same way as you. As I said above, I think Slitherine sold the whole "exporting battles" thing way too hard, causing a lot of people to miss out on an occasionally flawed, yet overall fun, and sometimes even brilliant, grand-strategy title set in the classical period.
(Dang it, talking about the game makes me want to sit down and fire it up again now...)

You're preaching to the choir, bud.
Granted, watching the auto-combat (if you choose to view it) isn't exactly a cinematic experience like Total War is. However, I'm more than happy to forego that if i can still get reasonable battle results, and *not* seriously interrupt the flow of the strategic side of the campaign -- for me, that's where the meat & potatoes of the game resides, after all.
^It has the potential to be but is not there yet.
You say that, yet you already know as well as i do that you're going to end up getting it. >:D
-
^Of course, I'm still a gaming strumpet.

It's one of the reasons we get along. :cowboy:

Same footage of the game I posted from last week, but on its own (separated from the rest of the Field of Glory Day coverage):
One thing I didn't catch before is that it appears FoG2 is more integrated with Kingdoms than it was with Empires. In practical terms, I believe that means you won't need to exit the game when exporting battles (should you choose to fight them manually).
-
^This is great and UCG-centric news.
-
Yes indeed.
It also makes Slitherine's free giveaway of Field of Glory II suddenly look like a really smart move: Those who are interested in Kingdoms should be more inclined to get the game, as they likely now own FoG2 thanks to the giveaway.
-
^Oh yeah.
