Title: Space Exploration Names
Post by: BanzaiCat on March 25, 2019, 09:14:12 AM
Looking for (semi) serious suggestions for space exploration projects.

E.g., Apollo, Mariner, Voyager, Gemini, etc.

Even smart-ass (e.g. mirth) replies welcome. :)

Uran.... No, I won't go there. How about, "Space-a-topia"?  :oh:   On a slightly more serious note. Project Magellan?

I have to admit, there's more serious suggestions here than I expected.

Thank you, AD Community.  :applause:

Wasn't that the French physicist who chucked it all to become a street mime? IIRC, his most famous routine involved walking into the wind using the least possible number of steps.

No, I think that was Spock's last name. Or first name. Or whichever we never got to hear. Other than, 'Mr.' of course.

Wasn't Spock's first name 'Benjamin'? I hear he was good with kids as well.

These names, if you're wondering, I'm wanting to use to describe space missions in the GMT game SpaceCorp. I'm going to work on an AAR - this game is a lot of fun and fast-playing.

So, naming a mission Mirth-1 to Uranus, while that has a certain amount of charm, I was looking for more semi-serious suggestions given that this is going to go on the AD Front PageTM. (Insert incoming jokes on 'front page, what?')

I did assume that you were looking for 'new' names and not ones already in existence either in fact or fiction?

^ Correct, sir. Just some ideas.

Well hell, why didn't you say that in the beginning Good Sir? Please feel free to use, 'Mission Slash' to anywhere other than Uranus because some types here about would no doubt make something juvenile  out of it. Though, it would be funny.  :hehe:

How about using the names of various fictional companies from scifi media such as Weyland-Yutani?

Try this page for some more: https://concord.fandom.com/wiki/Fictional_Firms_in_Science_Fiction

You could also combine some current companies into interesting conglomerates such as MaerskBoeingSamsung

How about naming space missions in honor of Russian Cosmonauts that've died in space? That ought to give you plenty of material.

Harcourt might be a solid choice.
