Title: Other Threads Off-Site
Post by: bayonetbrant on June 10, 2019, 11:18:35 AM
Not sure how many of y'all are on BGG, but I set up a consolidated / running thread for ACD announcements over there in the Wargames > Announcements area so that people could just subscribe to a single thread and keep up with our info / announcements, and it also gives them a single place to talk back to us (so I don't have to go hunting threads)

https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2092251/armchair-dragoons (https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2092251/armchair-dragoons)

if you're on BGG, you could subscribe to it pretty easy and keep up w/ that discussion thread

I've also taken over the old GC folder at Consimworld, and re-purposed it to Mentioned in Dispatches

I've always thought of Brant as more Jar Jar than Sith Overlord.

Jar Jar did pretty much create the Empire

Isn't there a theory out there that Jar Jar is the Dark Lord of the Sith?

That was a mindbender, that theory of Jar Jar being a Sith.

Of course it would be retcon nonsense if Disney ever did take up that point, but they will of course not ever be that creative.

And, his Sith name would be, 'Darth Ridiculous'   ;D  Or, he could turn-out to be another long, lost Skywalker sibling. Maybe Leia and Jabba got together while she was in that hot Slave Girl outfit. Don't laugh. Jabba did have a little Jabba in the animated series and that's all that counts now days.

In asking this I may be ordered to turn in my SW card but when the hel was Jabba ever human? I can only find reference to him being portrayed as a biped with some kind of yellow muskrat head in the first SW comics before the second movie came out, canonically revealing him in all his Pizza the Hutt glory.

It's an obscure reference, but it checks out.

See, the original Star Wars (IV) movie had Jabba as a human being. They deleted a scene with him and Solo in the Tatooine  docking bay. Jabba never made another appearance in the films, until VI.

Actually, they *did* use this scene in the re-release of IV, before the prequels. They did the above scene *but* matted a much slimmer and more mobile Jabba (that you know and love from Return of the Jedi) over the human. Even made Han step up as if he were stepping on his tail as he moved behind Jabba (which you can see in this scene). It starts at 15 seconds in the below clip.

Is that the one where Jabba sang, 'The Yellow Rose of Texas' while doing a Mexican Hat Dance? Or was that the Rancor Monster?  :o

My understanding is that Lucas always wanted to Jabba to be a slug-like alien, but they couldn't make it work when Star Wars was originally shot so they did the scene with Jabba as a big human guy and then Lucas cut it because he wasn't happy with the result.

Either way, the docking bay scene with Jabba doesn't really add anything and should have been left out of the Special Edition.

and should have been left out of the Special Edition should never have been released.

FTFY

The battle scenes in the Death Star run at the end of the re-released IV were pretty good, but otherwise it was a waste of time other than being a colossal cash grab.
