Title: Tabletop Simulator -- What A Tanker!
Post by: Cyrano on December 14, 2018, 10:44:04 AM
It was just voted the 2018 ruleset of the year by Wargames Illustrated (pretty cool).

And I've got a TTS set for it.

We've talked a fair amount off-line about the idea of setting up something like "Saturday Night Fights", i.e., open up a lobby, including chat, have the Dragoons come by and play, and stream the whole mess to the public.  This is definitely something I want to do when my Teugen-Hausen set is ready, for example.

I was very surprised at the number of people who at least checked out Doug and my own play of WDS Panzer Battles: NA '41.

So, conceptually, how many here would be up for a game of "What A Tanker" in TTS.  I've got a good scenario and table that could handle as many as six and I'd be happy to teach and umpire.  It's a fun, fast-playing system and we could probably get two games in.

Let me know?

I added it in the workshop, but did not see any tanks. Was hoping to see a KV2!

Note to self from tonight's game:  Do not let the T-34 get BEHIND you.

Vance will not graciously allow you to turn around before shooting.

Thought it said you guys were playing Kraken something last night? Barth, flew a few missions in IL2 with Jason Pratt.

Plus, you can't admire the aesthetics when you can't see it

That's my excuse for last night. By the time I was done with in-law Christmas, it was all I could do to make it upstairs to go to sleep. Next time...

OK, sounds like we might be doing something serious here.

I'm thinking 1900 (CST) Saturday.

Who would be in?

Also, preference of sides would be worth mentioning.

I'll assume you'd all happily play anything 1939-45 so I needn't worry about rarity.

I'll roll up and build the scenario.

I'm working the soccer desk on Saturday nights, so I am out. If you guys live stream it though, I'll watch what I can

Should work for me. All things considered I'd prefer to play a non-Soviet Allied tanker, but will drive anything that won't be laughed at for looking like either a midget car or a tank chassis with a bus on top.

I'm going to have to pick up TTS during the next holiday sale.

It's on sale at Fanatical right now for 50% off (and another 10% off that if you use code FANATICAL10).

So I'm seeing Vance, Doug, the Cap'n...

Anybody else?

I'll make it Jerries versus Amis.

All the rest is rolled up by the game.

Some, I'm literally downloading TTS now (thanks SDR!).

I take it I'll need to dl the module if I want to play.  Wife says we have nothing going on Saturday night, so I can join you.

Wow, TTS is a 4.8 GB download.

I should be able to grab TTS tonight. Still 60/40 on being able to play this Saturday.

Terrain done!

Tanks sized!

If you haven’t, please send me a friend request on Steam?  I’m Cyrano and can be distinguished from the 400 via my Berthier profile picture :).

See you all soon.

I think that should do it...all three hours of it...

As for what’s next, my “Et Sans Resultat!” Set is ready to go, but that’s not for the faint hearted.

Three thoughts just off hand:

1.  Age of Sail? (MINIS)

2.  Black Powder? (MINIS)

3.  A COIN game?

If you do a COIN game, you're going to have a hard time capturing all the inter player negotiation what needs to happen as a part of it without everyone hearing each other trying to cut deals.

That would especially handicapped the warlords A Distant Plain.

Liberty or Death wouldn't have a lot of negotiation, but if the Indian player just stays on the frontier and spends the whole game building villages there's almost no way for him to lose

You could open a chat window between yourself and the other person if you wanted.  Not quite a handy, but doable.

Next War: Taiwan is available.  That may be a longer game though.  I assume that you can save a game and continue it later.

Yep, there's plenty of ways to discuss, but none that would really be conducive to someone trying to watch all the action
