Title: All Commands Alert -- 1807 KS
Post by: Cyrano on May 29, 2022, 12:15:40 PM
I confess I broke my own rule.

I let too much time pass between turns, often for the best of reasons.

I now am left with two choices:

1.  Confess to the KS's collapse

2.  Stomp the accelerator and run the balance of it the way I should have, viz., turns every other day whether I like it or not.

This is all of you:

For France:
Portraying BOTH Napoleon I, Emperor of the French AND
Portraying Jean-Baptiste Bessières, 1st Duke of Istria, Commanding the Imperial Guard, Lance
Portraying Jean Bernadotte, Commanding I Corps, TomG
Portraying Louis-Nicolas d'Avout, 1st Duke of Auerstaedt, Commanding III Corps, Griff 2-6
Portraying Jean-de-Dieu Soult,, Commanding IV Corps, Gabe
Portraying Andre Massena, Commanding V Corps, Hatricus
Portraying Michel Ney, Commanding VI Corps Advocator
Portraying Édouard Mortier, Commanding VIII Corps: Pinetree
Portraying Jean Lannes, 1st Duke of Montebello, Commanding the French Reserve: Treb Courie
Portraying Joachim-Napoleon Murat, Prince of Berg and Admiral of the Empire, Commanding the Cavalry Reserve:  Dalinore (this, though random, really cracked me up)

For the Allies:
Portraying Levin August Gottlieb Theophil Graf von Bennigsen, Russian Supreme Commander, Tolstoi
Portraying Pyotr Bagration, Commanding the Avant-garde, Barthheart,
Portraying Alexander Ivanovich Count Osterman-Tolstoy, Commanding the Russian reserve, James Sterrett
Portraying Anton Wilhelm von L'Estocq, Commanding the Prussian forces, The Command Tent
Portraying Prince Michael Andreas Barclay de Tolly, Hethwill

I confess that I have lost the train of this and therefore must resign my command.  :-[

I kinda fell off the train too, but if it starts rolling, I'll jump back on.

I would be willing to continue but, I do feel the momentum has been lost in the game so would also understand if it were cease.

I say we just plough through to get the momentum going again. To have all of what we have achieved this last year go to waste would be a shame.

Well. this went as long as I promised myself I'd leave it up.

The answer is fairly obvious, if regrettable, viz.: I've got to take this one down.

My apologies to those who were still very much "in".

I love the KS wand will offer one in the very near future, but it will come with a change:  I will ask all participants to keep a cadence; those that miss will be botted for a bit and then excused.  More on that after I get back from my pilgrimage in late July.

Until Then.

Jim

Not that YOU were the problem in any way, but a failure of central communication was one of the obstacles I have to overcome for the next one.  Unfortunately this forum seems inadequate.

The International Kriegspiel Society does a good job hosting events on Discord. They set up a separate channel for each player, allowing the umpires to post updates and messages there and receive orders.

I know it's a huge time investment up front for the umpire, of course.

Bummer but understandable. I know I was a slacker getting my orders in a few times and was generally confused most about what my troops were seeing most of the time.    ;D

The all capital you has me concerned it was me...

As mentioned, IKS does a good job using Discord. I've got three games going with them currently and get notifications whenever I need to do something. It works nice. And all the messages are in one thread that I can easily scroll through, much easier than email.

If you guys shift to Discord, we can set up some Kriegsspiel specific channels/groups in ours, or if Jim wants a separate dedicated one we can get one of those up, too.

I also just noticed this. I must admit that I seldom look into the forums for what is going in the game. I depend on what I get in emails. So, a lesson learned, and in the future I'll check the forum thread regularly. For what it is worth, I would have still been in for the game.

By the way, when in the heck happened to my, Bernadotte's, cavalry?

So will we ever find out what happend in the game. I guess there were some filmed reports as in previous games. It would be nice to know something about how the campaign was turning out rather than just a pulled thread and a deceased game?

I am also glad to help setting up a Discord server if wanted. I do agree with the above, the IKS is running dozens of massive text based Kriegsspiels/campaigns this way, and it works perfectly well.

Apologies I've been absent from the forums for a bit, I was really enjoying the kriegspiel and would happily join another.  I wish I knew what the state of things near me and Mortier actually were?  There was so much fighting over that little area. I wish I knew too if reinforcements were close by for either side. My guys under Davout were basically fought out and probably over-marched by the conclusion of things.

Bummer. I didn't catch this thread until just now - I'd have been more than happy to continue, but apparently that ship has sailed (or, perhaps more accurately, sunk). Kinda wish something had been sent to me directly as I only check the Armchair Dragoons very infrequently (less than once a month).

OK, now I've gotta do something positive because I feel even worse than I did before.

Obviously this forum was not the place to keep people connected.

If we drove over to Discord, would everybody be sufficiently connected to it -- notifications, &c. -- to stay in touch?

The game will not be continued on Discord.  Too much lost.

Rather, it will a new game and I'm trying to figure out the best way to communicate so everyone is aware of what's going on.

I would prefer Discord. Having now played, as well as currently being involved in a few ongoing, KS games with IKS via Discord, it's a great way to play.

Will we ever get a small video on what happened in the campaign? It would be lovely to see just how lost everyone was.

I'm not a huge fan of Discord (I find the interface non-intuitive) but it would work to keep me more connected with VdA play as it comes up automatically every time I turn on my confuzer and "forces" me to read my notifications. That said, I think it would be quite helpful for those of us who aren't regular users of Discord to have a little set of "instructions" on how the game will be run on that forum.

This is by no means to say how it should be done or how it would be in detail if Jim does it, however this overview on how we are running and playing them at the IKS might help to understand the Discord features and how to set them up: Kriegsspiel Handbook (https://kriegsspiel.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/KS_Handbook_v1.pdf).
