Title: LotR Combat Hex Game
Post by: bob48 on May 18, 2023, 03:51:05 PM
Back in 2003, Sabretooth Games brought out this game to co-inside with the LotR movies. It was only produced for a limit time but enjoyed a sort of cult following and the range of figures and add-ons for the game was quite extensive. You can still find quite a bit of stuff on ebay.

My gaming buddy actually brought the larger base game and then added a fair amount of other content and we played it extensively.

Just recently (whilst playing OST) we reminisced about the game and he said that he still had it all in a box somewhere and would dig it out with a view to playing it again since its quite easy to learn and not a bad game at all. The figure are all pre-painted, not brilliantly admittedly , but good enough for casual play.

Did anyone else ever play this?

I don't even remember hearing about it!  But that time was a bit of a gaming void for me, too, since that was when Bayonet Jr was born and I was deep into grad school.

I'd love to see some pictures if y'all dig it back out and play some :)

Quite a few, since he did add a lot to the original set, and picked a more in a second hand sale. He's gone to see  Roger Waters in a concert in Manchester, then has to catch up on some work (he's a self-employed graphic designer) before he has chance to dig every thing out and do a 'stock check'. And yes, we do intend to play it again at some point.

Lots of stuff on ebay still, and quite a lot of stuff on BGG. I also found a place to download the rules (which are only a very few pages).

Interesting to note that Sabretooth Games were bought out and owned by...............Games Workshop!
