This right here is delightful. While horrifically named, "Snappy Nappy" does allow for Operational KS with minis and that is commendable.
I particularly like the bit where the hussars that were sent off to find the Austrians wind up trashing their supplies instead.
Salutary.

This is a most impressive thing, and gives me ideas. One of which is establishing a Kriegsspiel Club, perhaps under the banner of ADC, like the guys out in California or the Chilton KS Circle in the UK.
-
I can see that at some point I'm gonna have to find out more about this kriegspiel thingie ;)

I know a great place in Ohio where you can check it out!

Could we not just put a bunch of toddlers in uniforms, get some big dogs and small cannons and wagons and fight this out at 1/3 scale. Just sayin'... >:D

From your remarks, one might take the notion that you think we'd not find that appealing.
In this you would be wrong.

If you build it... I will come and watch. ... And laugh ... A lot. :2funny:

We could sell tickets.

Well minis or no, having just picked up the 1862 rules as well, I'm hell bent on running some non-virtual KS games this year. I may do some of that using Marshall's snazzy Command Post stuff, since I have both Waterloo and Gettysburg unplayed so far, but I am definitely going to run some of the scenarios in the Too Fat Lardies scenario book.
Who wants to have a gaming weekend at my place?

Going to necro this thread to say that I’m actively working on playing regular, in person Kriegsspiel in the Indianapolis area. If you’re nearby and want to join in, send me a message and I’ll let you know details.
-
Gave me the necro warning, eh?
I am not afraid.
OK, let us imagine that Jim has built ALL the tables and armies necessary for this:

You'd need TTS to play.
We'd not play live but in hourly turns just like the "VdA".
When troops meet I think we'd play very short one-hour live sessions while all the others march. I think.
But before I get too far, who'd be in?
-
Sounds interesting... in.
-
Obviously in.
-
You mean we'd need TTS for the one-hour(ish) live battles? Or did you mean we'd also need TTS for the one hour march segments somehow (though not live)?
-
Both, really...although I'm open to thoughts.
My first idea was to have both marches -- whether in the presence of the enemy or not -- and battles be TTS experiences. The game turn is one hour even and that's how we keep the clock sync'd.
-
I'm just fuzzy how we're not supposed to play TTS live, but in hourly increments, similar to VdA. We'd all be playing on different saves of the TTS game, wouldn't we, if we're not playing live?

Definitely working on it myself, but, yes, I'm talking about incremental saves, one hour at a time. If you're alone on a table, you march alone in the company of the umpire. If there's a couple of you, you maneuver together in the presence of the umpire.
-
OHHHH! -- yes, I get it now! You meant playing along with the Umpire, you!
Somehow my brain was not registering that.
...which on reflection suggests I'm not mentally ready to play the game. But what the hell. >:D
Count me in.

Just stopping by to publicly express my support for this endeavor. I should mention that I have not previously played kriegspiel, but have read enough about it that I think I have a pretty decent understanding about how it typically runs.
Anyways, here's to hoping we can get this going!

As I mentioned elsewhere, the "Snappy Nappy" will have KS parts and notions, but won't be as Kriegsspiely as, say, our "Flight of the Eagle" stuff. To which you're also welcome. Not like I'm going to stop doing them anytime soon.
And you're most welcome to the "Snappy Nappy" game, too...
