I just bought Hitler's Reich.
-
Huh, has it been for sale all this time since he stopped using it?

Played the training scenario of Band of Brothers: Screaming Eagles as a solo learning game last night. Really like the system, there are a lot of die rolls though, my wrist hasn't seen this much action since I discovered my step-father's porn mags when I was 13....

He's in New Zealand, those were pictures burned into a tanned sheepskin with a red hot needle.
BoB is a good system, that plays fast. Lots of die rolls, but the upside is pretty much no charts once you understand how combat works. Really fast combat resolution as compared to some other WW2 tactical systems.

.....or maybe 11
Its just a great pity that, so far at least, Worthington have failed to keep the series going. This is very much like the situation with Academy Games and the CoH series.
-
So, you P500 gurus out there - there's a title called Mr. President (by Gene Billingsley) that is a P500 title and one I'm very interested in. It's status is 'Made the Cut' - it has over 1800 orders to date - so I assume that this means it's just a matter of time before it goes to production?
I'm sure it differs from game to game, but how long of a wait does this mean? A year? Months? Just curious. Thanks!
-
The only one I did was actually for all the BoB games plus extra KS stuff. If memory serves, it was over a year before I actually got the games.

With some artful use of wool some of those pictures looked pretty 3D...

It's a great system, I think I might get in the habit of rolling 2 dice, one for the MC and one for the result.

I'm a bit disappointed the next game will be Marines and not the Commonwealth module.
-
Agreed, but given the past performance by Worthington, I wouldn't hold yer breath for either of 'em.

You'll know it's only a few months away when it's status changes to "At The Printers".

True that. Plenty of other good games to play in the meantime.
-
Yeah, Unfortunately, with the exception of ASL, you'll be hard pressed to find a tac level game system that covers Brit / Commonwealth troops.
-
LnL Tactical has Commonwealth troops well represented in quite a few of the games: Normandy, North Africa, the Falklands and ANZACs are in Heroes of the Nam
-
Yeah - I should have qualified my statement by saying squad level WW2, but I take your point. Unfortunately (for me) I'm no fan of the LnL system any more than I am of ASL.
-
LnL is a lot better since they cleaned the rule book up.
-
So I've heard; I should maybe take another look at it.
-
So I've heard; I should maybe take another look at it.
You should. Or we might label you a communist.
-
So I've heard; I should maybe take another look at it.
I'd have to say that LnL Tactical is the most well-rounded easily played WW2 tactical system around at this point. That will attract the ire of ASL players, but we all know they pee in bottles instead of leaving the table so as not to lose their place in the rule books.
BoB has huge potential, but the lack of content holds it back.

Next up fer learning...
Is that a complicated one to learn Barth? Do they do 'reprintings' of the other versions (noticed that their prices are through the roof!).
-
...no P500 guru here...
@BC - maybe it depends on another game to reach these numbers, too... or the artwork isn't 100% finished.
fyi, i ordered 'The Russian Campaign' some time ago and read on the consim forums that it won't be shipped before other games are up to the cut... (seems the printrun will be a batch of games bundled with TRC)

These rules are not complex at all... at least not as complex as some. Pretty standard war game concepts. Zone of control bonds are the only thing new to me and this is the only game of this series I own.
Still haven't figured out Next War Poland or Silver Bayonet.... :idiot2:
-
Welp I saw Gloomhaven was $133, then dropped to $117, then $107. I had a nice gift card that's just been cleaned out to get this game at this (for Gloomhaven) ridiculously low price.
Cyrano - are you still getting a lot of enjoyment out of it?

Do you not even read these forums or listen to the podcasts? ::)

Was it not Cyrano that was playing this?
It's been a while, ergo why I'm asking the question.

You won't be able to find it if you're wearing pants

Funny you should ask: played for eight straight hours yesterday and loved every minute of it. Finally got my best friend over to be our fourth and he has made me swear to not advance the story without him.
The only downside is the thing is a beast to put out and stow. It’s what comes of a game if this scope, I suppose, but the struggle is real.
I continue to regard it as among the best games ever created.
-
Thanks, Cyrano. I figured it would be a beast component-wise, but I just could not pass it up at $107.
That and so many positive reviews echoing your words about it being great...my only hesitation was it's legacy aspect, but I went for it too.
-
$107 is the lowest I've seen for Gloomhaven, that's a great deal. Hmmmm.............
-
Do eeet!
I'm also trying to decide if I want Drive On Stalingrad (DG version). I'm loathe to spend $70 on a DG remake but I really like what this one covers.

I received a $100 Amazon gift certificate for Christmas. I now own Gloomhaven.

Here's to those of us with no self control!
-
:D
-
Speaking of no self control, I just picked up Barbarossa by VPG and DnD Wrath of Ashardalon. With Hitler's Reich I did pretty well this year.
Anyone else get some good stuff?

Boy if that's not the case oars harlot calling the game where a game whore
-
There was one?
-
I amost bought MBT
why? so it can sit on your shelf while complain there's no one to play with?
;)
(that one's pretty complex, and can be played solo, but not a ton of fun solo)
-
Yeah, that's what stopped me. Barbarossa from VPG is solo though, and the others can be played solo.
Hitler's Reich was an impulse buy to be sure, but I'd heard nothing but good things about it.
-
Gloomhaven arrived today. Holy hell this game is heavy and full of amazing content.
-
HOORAH for the Gloomhaven Brigade!
That really is a great price and, if you wind up liking it as much as I think you will, an astonishing dollar-per-hour value.
How many do you both have to play it with? I’ve now got a full four that all threaten me with harm if I advance the plot without them.
-
LOL
Honestly it'll just be me. My daughter might play it but they're headed back on Saturday. My only challenge is figuring out if I want to play with two or three characters...just made it to page 16 of the rules and read the very interesting balance it calls for when soloing the game.
I've watched a lot of reviews on this game and some say you can easily get 100 hours of play out if it. I'm pretty happy with the ratio of cost to time, there.
Also thinking of might need a larger folding table on which to play this.
-
It will be just me solo or me and wife. My biggest fear is the setup/take down. :D
-
There's organizers out there that apparently make it much easier to set up and take down the game, but the price tags are sky high. There's one on Amazon that's almost as much as what you and I paid for the game. Others out there are cheaper but still, about sixty bucks.
-
Yet another reason to just go ahead and buy a proper board game table. :D
-
Oh, I've got more than table enough, but I am seriously thinking about the Broken Token organizer. I futzed with it at Origins and it really is a remarkable piece of kit.
For a game I know I would play much more if it weren't such a challenge to set up and get down, it just might be worth it.
-
I have the Broken Token organizer for 7 Wonders, and I can actually fit the base game plus first 4 expansions in the box together. Now that Armada is out, though, I don't think it'll work.
-
I installed a new chandelier this weekend over our dining table. The wife looked at it and said that it looked great but the table looked horrible now. She asked me, "what was that gaming table you were looking at when you were at Origins?"

Tell Jodi that I sent you :)
Dunno if it gets you a discount, but couldn't hurt to mention it
-
Hm.m... making it hard not to take the 'Board-gaming plunge'
-
Get it!
And we'll play over VASSAL. :bigthumb:
-
You have it, Barth? I do...I need to learn how to play it.
-
Yes I have it.
Yes you need to learn it.

I need to stop buying and start learning. :nerd:

Impossible. Mirth has me by far beaten in the MILF Barfly category.

Hitler's Reich and The Barbarossa Campaign both arrived today! :D

Yes, you do!
Of course, I'm the guy meeting to do 5 trades the 3 buys in person in Edmonton tomorrow.
And I've got a game order on the way.
And I haven't logged in here for 2 weeks, largely because of games.
I might have a problem. :o ;D
-
LOL ;)
I played Infection: Humanity's Last Gasp yesterday. Quick-playing game where a contagion is threatening to kill everyone on the planet, and the player's goal is to build an antivirus in the lab. I of course thoroughly and utterly lost my first game, but it was a lot of fun.
