So, I will not be the GM on this thing, but I'm going to open up the thread for prospective players to organize the game, assuming someone is nuts enough to be the GM

Well here’s ‘hose eleven’ , as we call it.
Totally missed this thread, but yes! I’ll try to get this going. Ideally we have at least one more player.

INTRODUCTION

Location: Near Kalisz

Your group has picked up some garbled radio transmissions a few moments earlier. There was a lot of interference over the radio, but you could make out enough to understand a Soviet transport helicopter crash landed nearby.
This might be a great opportunity to scavenge for some much needed supplies like weapons, ammunition and gear, but also service parts or perhaps fuel or other scarcely available commodities.

Fighting has been fierce in the region for the last week or so, but since about a day or two things have become quiet.
The Allied push has been halted, but the Soviets do not seem to give chase either, resulting in this particular area to be some kind of no mans land.
It figures, as your ‘camp’ is situated between two rivers; west of Kalisz and to the east in the direction of Lodz, but it will be a matter of time before the Soviets will consolidate the area between the two rivers.
Some lightly armed patrols have been scouting the area, but so far they seem to leave everyone they find alone. That said, it’s no secret to them your group has made something resembling a base of operations in the run down farm your group is currently holed up in.

Lodz is firmly under Soviet control. If you draw a North / South line just west of Lodz, you’ll have a pretty accurate depiction of Soviet controlled territory; everything east of the line is in red hands.

While the Allied forces hastily retreated, your group has tried to salvage some vehicles. A broken down M1 Abrams was left in a field just north of camp which looked like it suffered no real damage. But every attempt at making it serviceable again has failed.
The only vehicle that is in working order is an old and heavily battered pick-up truck of Soviet origin. The thing has little problem ploughing through mud, rough or snow, but it drinks gasoline as readily as a german woodcutter at october fest. There’s currently about 1/3 left in the tank and no jerry cans are available at the campsite.

The crash landed helicopter is about 20 km to the South East. About a 30 minute drive considering the condition of the terrain. Large impact craters, rubble and offroad terrain being damp and soft with muddy patches in places where water from melting snow has accumulated. Temperature has hovered around or just above freezing level for the last couple of days turning vast blankets of snow into obnoxious slush.

So, that’s 30 minutes towards enemy territory and very likely towards a Soviet security detail  enroute with their own salvage mission for the helo. And that’s assuming only the helo crew is present at the site at this moment…
