Our next-door neighbor in Ohio was a naval aviator on his last assignment.  He was still stationed in Norfolk, but had a job already lined up with NetJets when he got out of the Navy, so he moved the family there to get the girls started in school, since he wasn't getting out until March or so.

His unit was req'd to maintain a certain number of "long haul" flight hours (i.e., not just circling the runway), so he got permission to fly his F-18 to Rickenbacker ANG base on the south side of Columbus as part of those hours.

1-2x/month he would fly from Oceania NAS to Rickenbacker on Friday night.  He'd taxi to a hangar, and lock it up with the FPOs.  Wife would pick him up for the weekend, and he'd get back down there about 0500 Monday morning and fly back to VaBeach.
