This is Doug's fault.
-
Bob and Doug await his response as well

He lives right near where Doug's head is tilted so, yeah, appropriate.

Welp, it will be the first Sat that my wife and I have been in the same place for nearly 3 weeks... so... I need to check when I get back home.

Napoleonics it is then...
-
Oh, good. You haven't done that in a while.
-
Like Napoleonic's
-
Oh, good. You haven't done that in a while.
I think I liked you better when you couldn't see ;).
Very good, we'll do AmRev which is LIKE Napoleonics, just less shooty...

You know what we need? We need some WW1 ship models. Then we could play some stuff.

Which simple, no-roster rules you got? I'm ready.
-
Let me look at a book I have here. I think we have rules
-
We can always play using the "Jutland" rules.
There's 100 scenarios out there...
-
Oh NO!! I probably cannot play this Saturday night (MILs Birthday). Therefore you bastards cannot play Jutland without me.
-
Fair enough.
WWI Fletcher Pratt it is then ;).

Yep, not kidding now.
Prepare to Fletcher Pratt.
No broken backs.
No bruised knees.
Just toy ships and as many morons as we can pack into a virtual space range estimating at dreadnoughts somewhere near Argentina.

Would love to do it not familiar with the rules though if thats ok
-
This is very tempting.
-
Are you guys playing on Saturday, or Monday?
-

I've played them, but never umpired.
Mirth might well have.
Doug might own an autographed copy.
But ALL are welcome.

Fixed it!
Thanks.
Given these rules, struggling with math is a bit of a problem.
-
Well I will be available to pewpew
-
You basturd. Now I have to show up somehow.... :tickedoff:

I've played FP several times. I have an old copy of the rules kicking around. I know they have been updated somewhat recently.
-
Just FYI, I'll be running it straight out of the Curry edition which is a re-format of the original but contains no amendments save Don Feathersone's (which I will not be using).
Your experience in this would be most welcome.
I remember saying "BOOM" a lot and hoping my father had taught me enough about distances to make me undangerous.
-
I'll see if I can track down my rules. I can't 100% commit to Saturday night, but I would like to play if possible.
-
Cyrano, do you have Seth Owen's Fatal Choices? While I'm 100% down with Fletcher Pratt, Fatal Choices includes a reduced complexity version of NavTac specifically designed for WWI. NavTac itself is based on FP, but includes things like critical hits and catastrophic damage.
It also has both Coronel and Falklands scenarios in the book.
Like I said, I'm completely down with FP. NavTac might be quicker and easier for those who haven't played before, if you have those rules.

If you're gonna do FP, this is the version to do...
-
I do not own it and, unfortunately, it would seem the Kindle edition is messed up and cannot presently be sold.
That said, if I recall correctly, this one replaces the range guessing game with dice which, to me, kills the weird joy of Fletcher Pratt. I'll still get it when it's Kindle-ready, but I really do finally want to decide if I like FP or not.
Not that I'm any kind of WWI naval gamer anyway...
-
I remember playing the FP rules over 50 years ago - had great fun making the ship cards :)
-
FP Experts --
Table size for what will prove to be a 4-6 player battle?
15' square enough?
-
What's the scale?
-
And approx. how many ships do you figure for each player?
-
Is this the Falklands? You're not actually going to try Jutland are you?
-
And approx. how many ships do you figure for each player?
1:1200
1 per player...maybe two?
First will be a "try on the garment" where we just learn the rules.

For those conditions, that amount of space should be more than adequate. I prefer a good amount of space for maneuvering.
-
It'll be interesting to see how goes. Once people start to find the range in FP, things get very exciting very quickly.
-
Are you going to get into use of smoke and torepdoes? WWI torps aren't all that effective, but they can be fun to cause a little panic and force people maneuver.
-
Is there a TTS mod for this?
-
See the pic on the first page of this thread. ;)
-
Doh! :-[
-
Fun playing with little toy ships.😀
-
...as long as its in the privacy of your own home.........
..and between consenting fleets..................
-
So those 16-inchers are more like 3mm then, eh? :D
-
Its not calibre that matters, its how accurately you delivery your salvo that counts.
-
Well I am screwed on both counts the, small cal. and all over the place.
-
Time to visit the optician then.
...can't do much about the first part though............ :)
-

Yes and yes.
But, funny you should mention it...
What in heaven's name do smoke screens DO?
I see how to place them and I think I know how to MAKE them, but, again, what do they do in game?
-
Cant wait til Saturday, work going slow and night class canceled til who knows when. Need gaming!!!!
-
Same here! I'll be free saturday
-
Playing more Fletcher Pratt this weekend?
-
Likely not.
Horrid week, honestly.
May do something painfully simple like flopping sides on the "Bridge Too Far" scenario to give the Allies the punching we got last time...
