THE ONE RING Roleplaying Game, Second Edition (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1192053011/the-one-ring-roleplaying-game-second-edition?ref=ksr_email_user_new_project_from_creator_youve_backed)
Backed in 4 minutes and currently at $553,845 with a goal of $12,000! I'm tempted to join in. This is from the same people that did Mutant: Year Zero. :bigthumb:

And T2K
And Forbidden Lands
-
I know, right?
-
I'm guessing this isn't my bag - as a solo gamer. I don't really know much about RPGs in the board game world...I assume it's like D&D where you have a group of pals and the story is driven by "the book"?
-
JD, check out this for sort of an intro to how to play solo:
It is possible to play tabletop RPGs solo and even have fun doing so. Don't be afraid to give it a go. That said, I'm sure if you want to start a Play by Post game here you'll have plenty of people willing to sign up.

I have The One Ring from Cubicle 7. Is this just a new and improved version or a total reworking? Either way its is very tempting.

Gah, I clicked on the link! I may never know peace now...
-
^tut - you should know better. <shakes head>
-
Yeah, you'd think I'd know not to shoot the tank by now.
...You'd think that.
Instead, however, what I *actually* did was back the campaign at the "My Preciousss!" level so I can get the Collector's Edition, because I'm an utter ninny.
-
I'm not saying that I shot the tank either,
....but I did look. :(
-
Wow, they are rapidly approaching $800,000!
-
Yeah, at this rate, they're gonna break a million by the end of the weekend. :o
-
You know bbmike, i clicked on the link to ME, Myself and Die. I have been watching this all day.

:bigthumb: That dude is amazing. He's done a lot of voice acting, so that helps.
-
So the campaign has now raised over $1.2 million, and blown past every stretch goal. They also mentioned something about cloth maps in the last update. :D
-
Amazing. There was talk of adding a solo rules module as a stretch goal but I guess it's not gonna happen. Not really needed, I suppose, as there are now so many 'solo methods' out there.
-
That is pretty impressive.
-
I don't think I could play an RPG solo.
-
Well there went more of my money. Cloth maps for both Eriador and the Shire are now available as add-ons...

Those maps look awesome.

They do, but I'm already in for SEK 798.

Your point is?...........

Sigh.

You know you want them! >:D

I want you all to know that I hate all of you.

:o :o :o
-
We want's it, precious, yessss we do.
-
I am still resisting. So far, so good.
I'm also not nearly as much of a tolkien fan as y'all are
-
??? :o
-
I'm not a huge Tolkien fan but this is just too good to pass up.

I'm with you and resisting so far but its tough. Honestly the last thing keeping me from backing it is my copy of The One Ring from Cubicle 7 has been sitting on my shelf since 2011 unplayed....
-
I knew I was doomed as soon I clicked on the link. Even more so when I started scrolling down the page to see the stretch goals and add-ons.
We want's it, precious, yessss we do.
Yessss, precious...

They finally added Solo play as a stretch goal!
STRETCH GOAL 30: SOLO MODE – LOCKED
If we reach this goal, acclaimed solo roleplaying game designers Shawn Tomkin (Ironsworn) and Matt Click (The Mecha Hack) will collaborate with The One Ring designer Francesco Nepitello in creating a robust framework to allow solo play. This will be released to backers as a PDF some time after the main fulfilment of the campaign.
-
Only about $18,000 away from unlocking Strider mode! 45 hours left! :D
-
Strider (solo) mode has been unlocked! (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1192053011/the-one-ring-roleplaying-game-second-edition/posts/3118629?ref=ksr_email_backer_project_update_registered_users)
All stretch goals have been met. And with 19 hours still to go, it looks like the campaign will pass $1.8 million USD before it's done. 8)

They ended up with a little over 2 million. I stand corrected. :D

An unboxing of the cloth map for the Shire. Looks damn good.

#unboxingDay is next week
just sayin'

Fresh off of the UPS truck:
Lucky! I'm still waiting on mine. Free League said fulfillment orders on this side of the pond should be complete by February 18, so hopefully soon... :waiting:

Except for the d12 kerfuffle, it's a really nice production.

Except for the d12 kerfuffle, it's a really nice production.
This d12 kerfuffle?
Unfortunately, the mechanic is over engineered. The d12 sticks out, and it’s not clear why the game needed more than one die type. To make matters worse, if the d12 comes up 12, the roll is automatically successful. That means all characters have a 1/12 chance of succeeding at any task, no matter how difficult it is. That dynamic makes it harder for GMs* to properly set difficulties. If everyone in a party tries to kill the dragon Smaug by throwing rocks at him, chances are fairly good one of them will roll a 12 and succeed.
(From the Mythcreant's review (https://mythcreants.com/blog/the-one-ring-is-a-mixed-bag/).
I haven't had time to look at the actual rulebook too much, but the Starter Set is nicely narrative (this ain't no dungeon crawler), if weirdly limited to hobbits and the Shire.
-
The feat dice were mis-printed, so Free League is re-printing the whole batch and sending out new ones to everyone once they're ready. It's going to take at least a couple extra months, however.
-
The misprinted die (which will have no affect on game play whatsoever when you know it shows 11 instead of 1) will be a nice souvenir from this edition. I will treasure mine as my precious.
-
Received my copy yesterday. Technically, Amy received my copy, so I will just have to go visit her to get it. ;) She did an unboxing with me over the phone, and we're both pumped by everything that's included.
Unfortunately, it appears I screwed up/misunderstood what all was included in my pledge level: I thought I was getting the cloth maps of both Eriador and the Shire (along with everything else), but apparently not. Looking at the KS page again, I only now realize those were separate add-ons. I'm honestly bummed out about that at the moment; I really wanted those cloth maps. :(
-
is there an option to order them after the fact?
-
Short version: No, there isn't.
The pledge manager has been closed for a while now, so that's not an option. I already reached out to Free League customer service yesterday, and they responded that currently, all the cloth maps are spoken for (which is what I figured would be the case). They said it's possible there could end up being a few extra left over once all fulfillment orders have shipped (including those outside North America, which are just starting to go out), but they won't know that for at least another month yet.
So yeah, I done f***ed up. Argh.
-
I'm right there with you.
