Anyone here playing HOI IV with the Millennium Dawn mod?
If not I highly recommend giving it a try.

I guess not judging from the lack of interaction.  It really is a pretty good mod.

I think it’s more the game than the quality of any mods - turds and polishing come to mind

Yet it remains Paradox's most-played game -- and by a fairly hefty margin, if I'm not mistaken.  Even CK3 can't compete, numbers-wise.  However flawed Hoi4 might be, they must be doing *something* right.  ???

Most-played.

One need only check out the current SteamDB charts to verify that:  In the top 100 games, Hearts of Iron IV is currently sitting at 26,132 players, which easily tops Europa Univeralis IV (15,130), Cities: Skylines (13,466), Crusader Kings III (12,790), Stellaris (11,663), and Across the Obelisk (10,004).  Those numbers are pretty consistent with what I've seen in the past.

Paradox has mentioned on more than one occasion that HoI4 is their most-played game.  I've heard that's at least partially due to the modding community, though I can't say anything about it myself (as I don't own the game).

Ah I see what you mean.  To be honest I played HOI IV when it first came out and loved it a bunch.  But after a while I got burnt out.  I doubt I'd play a single player vanilla campaign again so that is why in order to try to breath new life into the game I look for mods.

But then again...I agree, polishing waste matter isn't going to make it any prettier.

Don't be afraid, don't be dismayed

Me too.  I tried.  Recently, I bought a bunch of the DLC for HOI 4 in the hope that they would flesh out the game experience and refine some of the clunky features.  I forced myself to learn the system and the played through 3 full campaigns from 1936 to the end of the war.  I came away disliking the game even more now than I did upon 1st release.  This feels like it's been stripped of nearly all history and is now just a generic sandbox "what if" simulator with a thin veneer of WWII themed chrome laid on top.  I went back to HOI III with the Black Ice mod and had a much more immersive and rewarding experience playing though that (once the misery of reorganizing the military was done....)

I have not.  When I play, which isn't a whole lot, I use either BlackIce or End of the New Beginning, which is a steam mod, but updated a lot more often on github.

Here at ACD, we all pee the same color.
