Title: July 25, 2020 -- The Battle of Austerlitz for "Blucher"
Post by: Cyrano on July 12, 2020, 10:36:51 PM
This one will be part of the replacement for Historicon known as "Cyber Wars".

It is a tradition of long-standing that game groups just show up at cons and use them as an excuse to play with their friends.  Let this be no exception?

I'm going to drive there, set up my WiFi hotspot and a table, and pretend all this nonsense isn't happening.

Especially since Historicon was moved back to Lancaster, PA.

Apparently it moved to Facebook, which is far less accessible to me than Lancaster.

I did not enjoy the stay in Lancaster. I would like to see the new venue though. There were several moments when I doubted I'd make it out of the Host alive. It felt like being in the Overlook Hotel, but I doubt the Overlook was ever that dank and dreary.

The new venue was the only reason I really considered it this year. I hear it's better, but that's a low bar. There can't be a huge number of world-class conference facilities around Lancaster PA.

And yes, I'm more down with the suspender wearers than Augustus Roboticus.

The new venue is reportedly nice. However, a burning dumpster would be a step up from the Moist.

mirth, did you ever make it to a Fredericksburg Historicon?

I did not, but the reports from my friends who did make it were worse than Lancaster. You know it was bad if HMGS opted to return to the Host.

What's worse than Lancaster in July? Fredericksburg in July.

I never imagined staying at the Host.

I always stayed at the Courtyard just down the road.  Breakfast was great and they had booze on the veranda.

The new place is nice enough, but not really set up for a thing like Historicon.  I know why they left Fredericksburg, but I think it was the best of the bunch.

Huh. Missed your post.  I liked it. Mind you the weather was ghastly, but that would have required me to be outdoors.  Liked being that close to the battlefields.

I'm friends with several folks who have been to both locations for Historicon. None of them were happy with the Fredericksburg venue.

I was at the Host in 2018. There was a lot of construction still going on and many of the game areas were in spaces with bare drywall, unfinished floors, etc. The upside is that there was no flooding during the con which is a win for the Host.

I'd go back to Lancaster to see Historicon in the new venue.

And the Blucher game is sold out.

Dang...

Gratified I guess...

Now I actually will have to run the thing.
