This game looks interesting. I think i'll jump into the EA as soon as i finish my campaigns in Stronghold Warlords. EA starts tomorrow.

The UI looks very "Stellaris" to me. (https://www.aarcentral.com/emoti/thinking.gif)
Added to my Wishlist.

Ooooo... Dune is a better comparison. :bigthumb:

Definitely looking forward to this one. I've had it wishlisted as soon as it became available on Steam.
I participated in the Star Dynasties Development Build late last year. At that point, It still felt somewhat bare-bones -- it was a bit light on content, and the UI needed some refining -- but I liked what I saw overall. Hopefully when it drops into EA tomorrow, it'll be a more fleshed out experience.
EDIT: Forgot to add, I definitely get a Dune vibe from this game as well. :)

A decent article from Explorminate: a combination of preview (not by Rob, although he adds his own thoughts at the end) and Q&A session with Glen Pawley, the game's main developer.

Anyone trying it?
-
Not me. I'm happy to wait until it's out of EA -- both out of general principle, and because I keep hearing the game suffers from a lack of content/things to do at this point. Sounds like it needs more fleshing out.
-
To give credit where credit is due, Glen is active in the game's Discord sub-channel (via Iceberg Interactive), and has been very responsive to player feedback. He's clearly aware of the game's current foibles, and has plans to fix/improve them.
-
Sounds great. Don't know if i'll manage not to get it. Sometimes i like games that are not too complex.
-
That's part of its appeal for me as well. Strategy games don't always need to be deep or complex to be fun. As I said earlier, I plan to get Star Dynasties either way. :)

Looks like a major update just dropped. It adds a new feature (Expeditions) and significant improvements to modding abilities.

Anyone else tried this one, by the way? I grabbed Star Dynasties during the summer sale and installed it, but haven't dove in yet.
-
It's still on my pending list of games to play (i have it). Somehow, i am not so motivated to play it as long as it's not version 1.0 yet....but i am very tempted.
-
^ That's pretty much been my mentality on the game (so far) as well.

Well this is a bit of a surprise: Star Dynasties is already exiting Early-Access next month (exact date still to be determined). In addition, the 10-turn demo is being updated as well:

It's by no means necessarily bad news, but I do I think most folks were expecting the game to stay in EA for a while longer. I'm curious as to what has prompted this decision, as well as what the game will be like in its "full" 1.0 release state. I guess we'll find out in the next month or so.

Where'd that gif go? Ah, here it is:

heh, what bbmike said i would imagine

You know, I wouldn't be that surprised, especially given that the publisher is Iceberg Interactive.
I'd *like* to say it's great that (intentionally or not) they've taken so many 4x and space-strategy games under their wing over the last decade. However, the support -- or lack thereof -- that they seem to give their developers is really starting to give me pause. It makes me wonder/worry if Glenn Pawley (Star Dynasties' lead developer) is getting screwed over by Iceberg...or at least, is about to next month when his game officially goes live.

The game is releasing in just two days (September 1st):

The accompanying Day One patch will include a couple new features, the most notable of which is Colony Improvements. It replaces the previous "Infrastructure" system, and should help make planets feel a little more unique and less generic. I'm glad to see Glenn responded to player feedback in regards to this.
-
Goodness knows when I'll get around to actually playing it, but the game officially dropped today, along with a release-day patch. Iceberg also posted a dev interview/game overview:

A new blog is out. It looks at the upcoming improvements to spies, secrets, and general skullduggery (which until now has been rather lacking):

Glad to see Glen continuing to address major issues, and that he's working on fixing them. Two common critiques I've seen so far is that the game is somewhat bland, and/or that it's too limiting in what the player can do; hopefully the improvements to Intrigue help address both these things.

A new patch, and a modding contest:

The major feature from this new update is the ability to scout for potential new members to add to your House. Your House's expansion is no longer limited to marriage & childbirth.
I'm sad I will no longer be able to seduce dead characters, though. :hehe:
