Title: The Fermi Paradox
Post by: Martok on April 09, 2021, 03:17:20 PM
Not sure if this one really counts as a 4x title per se; it almost seems like more of a "god game".  Either way, though, it looks damn interesting.

Yep, mine too.  :)

I missed these before, but the 2nd and 3rd dev journals are now out as well:

Interstellar Radio Signals (https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1543150/view/3057358262197864676)

Generation Ships (https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1543150/view/3077625094856055297)

The one about generation ships especially fascinates me.  I appreciate that the devs appear to be going a little bit more the "hard sci-fi" route with this game.

On my wishlist now also.

I first read about the Fermi Paradox in the Sci Fi books Sempre Mars.

NASA Expoplanet web site.  4401 confirmed other planets.  165 of those are terrestrial.

This is on sale right now for $17.09.  Do any of you have it.

At that price, I do now. Which doesn't mean I'll be playing it anytime soon   ::)

Yeah, I saw that.  I already grabbed it, although like Steelie, I'm not sure when I'll get around to actually playing it.  :P

I at least wanted to support the devs in purchasing the game, however.  They're trying something a little bit different, which I think is great.

Ditto that thought, Martok. Spectacular success or dismal failure, at least they're trying something different.

Agree with you Martok and Steelie. And for $17 it's an easy choice.

The dev's roadmap for early-access.  It's an impressive list; they're clearly nothing if not ambitious:

If they pull off even half of what they have planned, this should be one heck of a game.

Man, I really lost track of this one.  Devs put out a big roadmap update last month:

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1543150/view/3356887133397662334

According to the dev diary, they've released 6 major updates to the game so far, with at least another 9 planned.  What they have in the pipeline looks pretty darn cool; I'm genuinely interested to see it all come together.  Also, the game is to stay in Early Access until at least next spring.

In addition, the devs had this bit to say:

Quote
Also, there are some things that are out of our scope for a small indie team or don't fit with the vision that we have for our game:

Multiplayer ( cooperative or competitive )
Very detailed customization of characters
Classic strategy game elements like moveable units or base building.
Detailed grand strategy elements with the micromanagement of a lot of resources / values.

Good to see they're working to manage expectations.  I'm sure a certain percentage of players were expecting/hoping The Fermi Paradox might be a more classic 4x/grand-strategy sci-fi experience, or that at least it could be played as one.  Anomaly Games are clearly aiming for something a bit different, however, and I applaud them for it.

That being said, I wonder if this thread shouldn't actually be moved to the Fantasy & Futuristic Warfare section.  It probably belongs there better than here in the 4x forums.
