Title: October 19, 2019 -- TRAFALGAR -- "Fighting Sails"
Post by: Cyrano on October 10, 2019, 12:15:42 PM
I can't believe it's already time to refresh the Immortal Memory.

This is a BIG battle with, if memory serves, no fewer than five commands.

I've got ALL the ships.

Now, "Fighting Sail" plays quickly and, given the nature of this fight I suspect this game will move quickly, but, all that said, this is going to be a long drink of water.

Any chance of an early start?

Talking really crazy, if we started at, say, NOON, could his Bob-ness join us?

S!

I'm playing in an Age of Sail game this Saturday:

Quote
1/1200 Napoleonic sailing ships using Signal Close Action
the proposition is that Admiral Calder missed the French /Spanish fleets off Cape Finisterre and Trafalgar never happens. Thus we have the Combined Fleets setting sail in August from the French coast leading Napoleon’s  Armée d'Angleterre to England."Let us be masters of the Channel for six hours and we are masters of the world." -Napoleon.

Fortunately for England the Prime minister’s spies have uncovered these plans in time to gather the Fleet and advance on the Channel. Now the race is on, Admiral Collingwood’s blockade force will encounter them first with the galant Nelson laying on every sail to join him. Will the French once again come ashore at Hastings or will Lord St. Vincent – "I do not say they [the French] cannot come – I only say they cannot come by sea" be proved right?

Interested to hear of your experience.

I've been a "Kiss Me, Hardy" guy forever, but it's all too much record keeping for TTS.

For the Allies, it's all about losing LESS than Villeneuve did.  And saving the Santissima which, were it with us, I would travel a great distance to see.  No, the reconstruction does not count.

Don't care if I lose less as long as I take more with me.  :D

With much regret, I have to withdraw from tonight's festivities. My wife set up a dinner with some friends without letting me know (this is a delayed "surprise" for my birthday).

I tend to feel about surprises the same way Ron Swanson does. Nonetheless, I appreciate the thought and will be dining rather than pacing a quarterdeck this evening.

Best of luck to all of the other captains!

Have a good evening.

On top of the above Bob, Ian is back in Ayr and has been for a week. I'm starting to believe the reason I don't get back to Newcastle is I get stuck back here running things while he travels Europe! (He was in Sicily for two weeks last month)

I was beginning to wonder where you had got too, since you had been so quiet. I started to suspect that you had been kidnapped by martians.

Oh, and you still own me a game of H&M............I've had the Fleurus scenario set up here for an age  ;)

What a very fine game.  I think it looked great and even got a nod from the game's designer on Facebook.

Thanks to all four players and a salute to the Bellerophon!

We'll try to wrap this next week.

We ended up at "The Liter House." German-inspired and a microbrewery. Turns out on Saturdays they have a thing called "Kolch Service." First one is $4, every one thereafter is $3, and they keep bringing it until you cry uncle. Schnitzel, pretzels, and currywurst were consumed. I missed the game to be sure, but a good time was had.

Yeah, I saw you were deeply immersed in the WH stuff, so I didn't disturb you - next time, I'll give you a poke with a sharp stick.

Which was pretty much what was happening in WH anyway.
