A new XCOM game called Chimera Squad releases in ten days

Chimera Squad will be an all-new standalone game set five years after XCOM 2, and will be available as a digital-only Steam release on April 24. For its first week of sale you can get it for only $9.99 (£8.50) as part of a big XCOM celebration, but from May 1 it goes up to its usual retail price of $19.99 (£16.99).

Played the first two missions.  It appears to be more of the same (that's a good thing) with a few interesting additions to keep the game a bit more fresh / less predictable.  Breaches seem like a cool way to not know where your squad will end up when you begin an encounter.  Gone is team-based I go / you go replaced with individual impulses.  This alone changes quite a bit of strategy as it is much more difficult to chop down the largest tree before it has a chance to take a swipe at you.

This is also the first in the series that I've played on PC -- mainly because got X1 for free from XBL and I picked up definitive edition of X2 for $10 during an Amazon Xmas sale.  Thankfully, the PC version has great controller support.  The game plays just like a console would when I have my XB360 controller connected.  BUT, I must say the graphics are *WAY* better than X2 was on Xbox.  I'm able to maintain 60FPS in most circumstances on high quality.  Sadly, Steam Stream doesn't seem to support full controller play so I'm stuck playing on my PC monitor rather than my nice TV connected to a decent sound system.  Apparently, if I connect my controller to the PC rendering the game and not the computer that is streaming, full controller support works great as long as you're in range of the source PC.

Overall, I'd say that it's a definite buy at $10 for anyone that likes turn-based tactical combat.

TW: Rome - Emperor Edition is on sale on steam for $14.99.  Is it worth picking up for that price?

Here at ACD, we all pee the same color.

I'd say yes if your really wanting to play that one. To me they've all gone downhill a bit from Shogun2 but that's not a bad price.

There's a big Total War sale at Steam. I just snagged Medieval TW 2 and the DLC for $6.24. I plan on spending a lot of Knights with this one.  :2funny:

Absolutely, yes.  While Rome II was released in a deplorable state, it's come a long way since then.  I heartily recommend the Rise of the Republic DLC as well, especially if you have any interest in that era.

If you're not in the Blood Bowl 2 thread, we're looking to get an ACD league going.  Right now, it's on sale at Humble (https://www.humblebundle.com/store/blood-bowl-2-legendary-edition?hmb_source=search_bar).  $12 for the complete edition and $5 for the basic edition.  Consider buying and joining our league!

Saw that.  I don't know if I'll ever bother playing the game, but I did pick it up.

I still haven't played CIV5 complete that I got from humble a while back. Wonder if vanilla 6 or complete 5 is worth playing first.

Haven't played 6 but my love for 5 is pretty well-documented.  You could get a lot of good years outta 5

Second Civ V with the expansions. I have Civ VI and put quite a few hours into it when I bought it earlier this year on sale, but haven't revisited it yet.

I can honestly say that I have never owned or played ANY Civ game. Is this some sort of record?
